Boy bands are serious business

Jun 04, 2010 04:50

So one of my fandoms is going through A Major Implosion. Not as bad as the September 2009 implosion, and not nearly as bad as the February 2010 implosion, but This Could Be the End of Fandom As We Know It, anyway. Depending on how things go. I was actually recruited to join the writing team for one of the fansites (to write articles, not slash, sorry) and I had to back out because everything is going badly. WE ARE IN A HANDBASKET.

(Come on, it was never going to work out, anyway. Like I have time to write for a fansite. I don't have time to write for my site.)

(And if I'm going to write about a boy band, IT SHOULD BE SLASH! Articles, whatever, what am I, a journalist? WE NEED MORE SLASH.)

One of my other fandoms is going through its own major upheaval, but they're being much, much better about it. This fandom has been through Serious Stuff several times before, and so have the group members; the other fandom is newer and less solid, and there are a lot of new people who know very little but speak very loudly.

Anyway, it's always good to be a Backstreet fan. I love my Boys. My Boys love each other. Whenever I'm talking about another group/artist, and how they're lacking, I point to Backstreet as an example of A Group Which Gets It Right. Because, as a completely unbiased and impartial observer, I can clearly see that the Backstreet Boys are perfect in all ways. Longevity, group unity, fan service, singing, dancing, harmony, actual talent, the all-important "hard work," and everything else pure and good in this world.

(Ahem. This post has been edited to remove large passages of starry-eyed affection for the Backstreet Boys, and to remove some minor taunting of certain fans of a certain other group Which Shall Not Be Named. I was going to delete the whole post, but, eh, it's not like I've ever been coy about the Street in the past. Why start now?)
