this entire fucking city is against me. nobody will hire me even if i qualify for their position. UT won't accept me because i can't come up with appropriate letters of recommendation. everything i try is met with failure. i like this city but i cannot live in a place that does not let me grow or move forward. i want to move, anywhere.

if it makes you feel better, i have five years of experience and will be graduating from the top archives school in the country with a 3.7 gpa, and i can't even get a job i'm overqualified for in bumfuckingnowheresville, USA. i think everything's just in the shitter right now.

but i gotta agree that austin's not really a "growth" kind of place.

and i'm sorry, and i wish better luck for both of us.

i was passed over for all three library positions; they didn't even want to interview me. i honestly don't know what to do. i don't have enough reputable contacts to get into grad school, and i'm not even given a second thought for the most basic level jobs. it's extremely frustrating.

i'm glad the entire fucking country is moving to central texas. soon they'll require a phd to work at jiffy lube.

In all seriousness, it would be pretty cool if you moved to chicago. You can volunteer at the museums and hold a "regular" job till you have enough connections to get the job you want. I will admit I am not an expert in museums or masters programs that help you get jobs at them. We might not be as laid back of place, but we've got lots of opportunities, and pretty good scene.

i like chicago, i do, and i do think it would be an easier place to find opportunities. i'm just not ready to go back to the midwest yet. give me about another year of failure down here and i'll probably start looking at other cities.
