all of the good humanities/museum jobs in austin require masters degrees. after a night of anxious soul searching i have reached the tentative conclusion that i must attend grad school. I want to attend to and exhibit historical collections, and UT has one of the best collection and preservation masters programs in the country, thanks in no small part to the harry ransom center.

but i have so many questions. why can't i find the term "museum" or "museum studies" anywhere on the UT grad program website? where am i going to get the money for this? how am i going to get worthwhile letters of rec. when most of my "professional" contacts haven't heard from me in years? most importantly, how to write a statement of purpose when i'm not even completely sure exactly what i want to do?

anne i know you could probably help me with some of this. but i wish there was someone professional i could talk to about it, and i'm not sure if a UT advisor will want to spend much time with a non-student.

god, what a waste of two years.
