It's been like 5+ years since i last looked at the unreal engine as a means of programming a computer game & i decided against it at the time because it was a subscription model, for a program that was pretty convoluted & whose results were hit or miss.
How the times have changed.
It's now free, has been for a while, it's eco-system is just over flowing with cheap yet stunningly rendered AA (if not AAA) level art assets that can be used to build pretty much any game, with only the smallest bit of C++ coding needed.
Now things that used to take an entire animation team can be done by a single person with an iphone. Take for example facial animation rigging. That used to take an entire team with speciailised computer software & experts in facial expression & now it can be done with an iphone app.
So if for example i wanted to make a video game with cut scenes i could use the sequencer program in unreal to make those high quality cut scenes & program in detailed facial expressions in to the characters, with the front facing camera on a recent model iphone.
Almost makes me wish i wasn't an Android user.
Anyway, might be time to dust off my old video game concept notebook.
