Spring

Despite what the Calendar says, it isn't really officially Spring in DC until the first nice weekend. This weekend is when people no longer have trepidation about the temperature swings, and you can see that in the way people dress. For the first few weeks of Spring you can tell people are confused about what to wear, "are shorts ok with it being 68º out?" Often you'll see some woman freezing her ass off in a summer dress or skirt or a guy in shorts and a short sleeve shirt because the weatherman predicted 70º but it only made it to 58º, overcast, and windy. But on the first REAL weekend of Spring, that is never in doubt...80s, sunny, maybe a light breeze so it doesn't feel to humid, but otherwise perfect. That was this last weekend.

Even more telling is the smells in the air. My parents have a magnolia bush (tree) in their yard, so Spring time to me always meant the scent sweet fragrance of the flower filling the air. Every time i smell that I remember it is Spring. Then there is the scent of the cool, damp grass thawing from the cold wet winter, and the soft touch of the ground as the dirt has yet to firm up under the hot summer sun.

Spring really is one of my favorite times of the year, getting outdoors, feeling the warm sun, seeing smiling people again. It is almost like feeling youth again, somewhat of a sense of recollection of days past. In my reminiscent mood I began to think about a soundtrack of Spring, songs that I want to hear when it is Spring or make me think of Spring. Here are a few songs I thought of:

Rain Song--Led Zeppelin
Here Comes the Sun---The Beatles
Misty Mountain Hop--Led Zeppelin
I Can See Clearly Now--Jimmy Cliff
Tangerine--Led Zeppelin
Going to California--Led Zeppelin
3 Little Birds--Bob Marley
Something--The Beatles
Blackbird--The Beatles
White Man in Hammersmith Palais--The Clash
Good Day Sunshine--The Beatles
Battle of Evermore--Led Zeppelin
Fool in the Rain--Led Zeppelin
In Between Days--The Cure
Ceremony--New Order
These Dreams--Heart
The Brasilian--Genesis
Upspin--Agents of Good Roots

I noticed a lot of Led Zeppelin, but those songs just remind me of Spring when i was younger.
