The Sound of Silence
Matthew had listened quietly to the Doctor on the phone as Carlos walked in. He motioned for his friend to sit.
"Are you sure there aren't any other tests we can run?" His eyes were closed as he listened, nodding softly to himself. "Okay. No, I understand and I thank you for everything you've done. Please, if there is anything you can think of, call me, day or night." Slowly he replaced the receiver then looked at Carlos sadly. "Well, that's it. I don't know what else to do. I have tried every Doctor, every specialist I can find to tell me why Carlita will not make a sound." He ran fingers through his hair. "Sam cries, coos and makes all those baby sounds. Carlita just smiles. Nothing. Not even when she's mad or crying. Just silence. Two months of silence from her. Is that even possible?"
"Don't take that the wrong way. She's as healthy as her brother with the exception of not making a sound. Every Doctor says everything is there, healthy and perfect, she just seems to not want or refuses to.......I don't know if Isabeau is ready to have a breakdown over this, but I am. I can't make it right." Finally he leaned back in his chair. "Carlos? What do I do?"
