Re: PS3s.

Look at this, I go out of my way for a chance to help friends save hundreds of dollars and myself lose up to $2,000, just to get hit with a jab like this:

http://ryan-the-great.livejournal.com/78543.htmlJust as an update, I will be putting the PS3s on EBAY in about an hour. The market ( Read more... )

It's bullshit that he is whining about not getting a PS3 at cost, you didn't go out of your way, spend the time, the effort, gas money, and other oppurtunity costs to go and buy these systems at cost to your buddies, you did it for the reason to sell them for profit. The store doesn't sell PS3's at Sony's cost, because they have to distribute it, pay the fees for having them shipped, employees to put the product out etc.....Matt has costs too, gas for driving around trying to find the PS3's, time spent trying to find them, and losing out on time that he could have been eating, watching tv, hanging out with friends, working on his website, etc....and you, you piece of shit, won't even compensate him for that by paying a lil bit extra? He wasn't even profit maximizing when he offered to sell it to you, eBayer's always look for the most profit they could make, and trust me, you would not get as good a price on eBay then buying from Matt, wait in line for your ps3, if you even come close to getting one next shipment...Your ticket analogy ( ... )

That pretty much hit it. I'm not trying to make a buck off my friends, I'm trying to curtail the huge loss I would be looking at by not going through with my original intentions ( ... )

I think it's the most appropriate fable here. They can keep drinking their faces off. Tomorrow I'll be $2,000 richer. They can keep making their decisions, and I'll keep making mine. I know mine benefit both myself and the people around me. Hopefully they can say the same, but I doubt it.

So, tell me again why you want me to get involved with them again? I'm dying to know.

Because I am "too nice" (translated, "too naive"), at least when it comes to these kinds of matters. In general I've mastered how to get what I want out of life and in short, how to get the job done. But I still act like a charity to deadbeats - this will end right now, although I said that a few months ago. I've been working on it though, and I've been improving. It's still a work in progress. Like any issue, it takes time to resolve.

Read through, and I'd like to say some things.

The cafeteria ladies at lu are truly awesome. They always seem to be in a kind mood when I'm there at least.

Matt, you are right, for you shouldn't let 'friends' who are so selfish boss you around for money. What kind of friend is only interested in the money that you'll give them? The answer is no friend. And good for you for finally putting your foot down, for if you didn't, those people would just walk over you for ever.

Thank you. I honestly think the Aramark goes out of their way to hire nice people.

I helped out Aramark every chance I got. Whenever they were under fire in the university paper, I would be there to submit something with my praise for their services to the school. Whenever there was an event, I would volunteer there because I liked it so much. So you know what happened? The manager gave me free food for a month for what I did. See what happens when you help the right people?

My biggest and strongest muscle of them all is my brain. With that, why it has taken me 25 years to figure out something so simple as that I don't know.

Wow.

If you try to even give 50 to the wrong person, you end up giving 100 and getting nothing in return except for abuse.

One of the facts of life is that you can't give an inch to some people. You get disrespect and exploitation in return. Also, some people do not understand business, and don't want to. Another thing that seems to be a sign that you're dealing with the wrong kind of person is when someone you've helped (but whom you can never help enough) calls you a tightwad ( ... )

It's incredibly sad about my uncle. One day I would hope to be half the man he ever was, but I would rather direct my extreme efforts and generosity to the right people. All my life I've been directing it to the wrong people. If I had three TRUE friends (and not selfish, self absorbed assholes) who wanted the PS3 for cost, I would give it to them at cost. Of course if they were true friends, they would gladly offer me $750 for it (or more) as a gesture that they appreciate the savings they are getting, and then I would say no. But these types of people may be hard to come by ( ... )

I think it's a bit different about the Bingo Ryan works at.
The money goes to charity.

Read: It's not for profit.

The PS3 thing was for profit. Very different.
Ryan calls Bingo too...he doesn't own the place, he didn't start the business, and he doesn't do the advertising to bring people in.

Look, all Ryan was saying with his post is that it's not the coolest thing to do because you're making a profit on it, a profit from your friends. If you wanted to sell them to your friends it shouldn't be expected that they will automatically pay more. Personally if I was in it for the profit I would have just put them on Ebay, but then I wouldn't have stood in line and ended up taking those 3 away from people who were standing in line a few spaces behind you.

I'm not that dedicated to a goddamn game system.

Now...if they were selling life-size Rogue and Gambit statues...
hahah

Good attitude! Never a borrower nor a lender be. Once someone asked to borrow money from me which I later found out went to paying for her boyfriend's car repairs. They broke up and he wouldn't pay her the money so she didn't pay me. When I asked for some kind of IOU or written agreement she said "OMG, you so don't trust me." After that guilt trip I lent her the money. Next time if someone says that to me, I'm going to answer "Damn right - now give me my bloody IOU." Some people I do feel I can trust though. It depends on the person. Some people are respectful and will always pay you back.

Michelle, I know it's asking a lot but I think you should read my Capitalism I, II, and III posts, lol. I'm proud of them. I think I really made all the points I wanted to make in them and came across clearly. Sometimes I just rant on endlessly, but I think those three posts were pretty coherent.
