So, the short version...
Last year, 24 Hour Fitness called me to tell me my membership was about to expire. Since my original deal was $800 up front, 3 years no payments, and only $50 a year after that, I asked if I could keep my $50/year deal if I signed back up later. They said, "yes."
They lied.
Over the last 4 months I have spoken to over a dozen 'higher-ups' at 24 Hour Fitness Corporate, and each time I called, the problem seemed to grow in mass like a
Katamari Damaci ball. Well, I reported my situation to the Better Business Bureau early in February and I got an email yesterday from 24 Hour Fitness that they will write a new contract for me as if the previous one had never expired.
In the end, they did the right thing. Yay for me.
Now, in letting a few people in Austin know about this, I'm sort of torn about whether or not I should endorse them. Being a pro-corporate, pro-capitalist person makes me want to reward their behavior with referrals. However, there's no doubt that I had to fight with persistence in order to get them to do right. They actually have pretty good policies in place, both public and private, to help curb situations like mine and I, more or less, fell through the cracks. But, again, they wouldn't have budged if I hadn't kept on them.
Whachya think?
