It was 30 degree celsius today. With the humidity it felt more like 40. Which makes me think that if it was actually 35 or 40 degrees, it might feel like 50, which would mean that we're halfway to literally boiling to death on the sidewalks.
My parents sailed their boat from Pickering to Toronto Island on Friday and spent the night. Dad called me while they were out on a grocery run and when Vivian and I got to the ferry my parents were already on board and called to us from across the deck! How about that!
We, with our bicycles, were immediately enlisted to carry the groceries on our handlebars. The walk to the boat was very long considering the heat and brightness of the sun. It was as though I'd been wearing sunglasses all year and suddenly decided to take them off, just for Saturday. My eyes ached from contracting to cut down the light and my brain began to throb in the tight enclosure of my skull.
It was nice though. My dad made us sandwiches and I drank a beer and then my mom kept watch on our mooring while dad took Vivian and I out on the lake. We mostly motored around and avoided the scores of other vessels in the water before returning to my mother who was getting impatient and tired of turning away far richer people in far larger boats.
Vivian and I spent the rest of the afternoon cycling around the Island and eventually headed back to the Ward's Island ferry. The ride back through the city was nauseating and the air conditioning at Vivian's place was little comfort so we had a nap and waited until nightfall to continue our day.
It was lovelier in the remembering than in the doing, but i guess that's all that counts.
