The rundown. (No, not another car accident.)

Tonight I went to Gamelab's Game Night -- the first one in months -- both to meet up with Dex about the IGF game we're working on, and to actually try and get another playtest in of "Madness." On the way home, I called to see about setting up a second date with Girl P.

The good:
--I got to see the new office digs of Gamelab; pretty nice? Much better use of the space, even if the elevator takes about five minutes to shut its doors (the Elevator Nazi would probably go postal if he had to use that thing).
--Another guy from a local game company, Large Animal, and I chatted for a while about gaming in general, and what we were up to. Always good to start to build more connections to people in game companies.
--I had a chance to catch up with some of the other folks at Gamelab, which is always a fun thing.

The bad:
--Nobody wanted to play my game. Argh. I hate it when that happens. Partly because I dragged everything out there for (apparently) no purpose, but also just because I've had a Hell of a time scheduling a playtest of it ever since I got hit by the car. Still, Eric made a good point -- I'm competing against cool-looking board games on game night, and need to boost up the visual appeal of the game to attract others.

The ugly:
--First, a quick background story: At the beginning of the month, I had a couple of dates with Girl H. They went good, and our second date, in particular, was great. We talk about hitting the museum on Saturday, but I never hear back from her, despite my sending two e-mails and voicemail. Than, a week and a half later, I hear back, and she wants to get together that Friday night. I say, sure. But on Friday, an hour before we're supposed to meet, she calls up and cancels. ...the hell???
--Now, last week I had a date with Girl P, which went really well -- lasted for about five hours or so, and we got along smashingly. For the record, for the four nights preceding the date she called me on the phone and we talked for an hour or more. Didn't hear from her recently, and called to see about setting up a date before I headed out of town. Her reply: "I'm busy all weekend." Not a "sorry" or even a "thanks, but." Total length of the call: 3:01. Ouch. Something in my disarray of dendrites suspects that I'm not likely to hear from her again.
--It's just that the same thing happened again; things go great and then the date vanishes. Maybe I should start slapping them around and see if that makes them stick around longer.

The congrats:
Dex will be starting a new job at Kaos Studios in mid-July. I'm not too surprised, really, as Dex has always been far more professional than I in working his contacts. He certainly deserves it, though.

The surprise:
I received a call from a recruiter (still feels weird saying that) about a possible job in a game company in Hackensack, NJ. Despite the distance, it'll be interesting to see if at least an interview comes out of it, and hey, it's still all about getting my name out there.
