Wednesday, I went into the dentist for the first time in quite a while. Like, 4 years, I think? Basically, I haven't been to a dentist since I moved to NYC, largely due to lack of dental coverage. And laziness.
But mainly lack of coverage.
Anyways, this past weekend I finally was moved by an inner desire to just get the damn thing over with; I've been pretty good with my personal oral hygiene, so I wasn't expecting anything major, but still, you never know. And I figured better to do so now while I have coverage.
I got the name of a dentist from one of my coworkers, and traipsed over during lunch (I always thought that using your lunch hour to see the dentist was a cruel irony, but that's a seperate story).
I arrived, filled out the top two sheets of a stack of paperwork that was about as thick as an ED-209 instruction manual, was seated in a dentist chair in a small room surrounded by collages of pets and babies and hanging flying things from the ceiling, got the x-rays, had the teeth cleaned, was told all was good, and I was then on my way.
...so I guess it really wasn't much of an adventure, after all.
I do have to apparently argue with my health plan to cover the costs, because now they don't cover out of coverage providers, but that's an "Adventures in HMO Red Tape" post, and who wants to read that?
