Last night was my first gig.
DOGCORE, featured Dj's Helvis, Andy, Ben, Scott and Special Guest Cyber Tom.
Live music > Mainstream Distortion (me) Featuring Jo and Stacey (exotic dancers)
And in incredible act of insanity... Metal Johns freakshow!!!
The day started off nicely, sorted out a few things with samples and whatnot and loaded the car with my equipment (I really have to get a laptop as dragging the whole pc around is a real shit!).
Got to Alans house where he was readily downloading an entire projection show to avi, took to long, we had to leave.
Got to the Oasis club in lil ol Cwmbran, walked through the doors to find all kinds of Uv posters and flags hanging from the walls and a Blow up doll on the floor. Oh and not to mention the handfull of Goths mulling about the place sorting it all out.
Got the Pc Set up and soundchecked, all ok - everything running smoothly.
Now for the important bits, a quick trip to McDonalds and a nice trip to the bar for a refreshing Stella Artois.
Got back to the club and tried to sort out where the projector was going to go.
Ok so Start of the night, Scott Dj'ing all sorts of Goth Metal and everyone arrived to sit down and chill out in the chill out room.
2 hours went by.
People still sitting in the chill room.
2 people on the dance floor...
Not what I would expect so I went outside.
Now the exotic dancers had allready arrived with their photographer for Pole Position Magazine - A Monthly magazine for "Gentleman's clubs" I was quickly Snatched up and spent half an hour doing a photoshoot!!!! sweet!
I got back into the building and Cyber Tom is at the start of his set...people are moving!!!!!
The dancefloor packed and me with my nerves starting to go the night was looking allot better!!
Andy told me I would be on in 10 mins. People were coming up to me and asking when I would be on.
In this 10 mins I had to go for a piss 5 times...that's once every 2 mins...
I got on the stage behind my pc and prepared for mass slaughter.
The cd's stopped spinning and the words mainstream distortion rang out of the speakers. The first song came on, the sound was terrible....
By the second track the sound was restored and I was in full swing, cheering on the dance floor and blurring myself with images of female dancers and Alan smashing up his Projector as it had all gone tits up. The dance floor was alive, I could hear people shouting my name...it was a buzz.
The 8th track, I had gotten half way through and to my disbelife Windows displays a message that my music program was closing.
I crossfaded it out, Andy was asking if I wanted to cut the set short, I just didnt let it get to me, loaded the program back up and brought the next track in slowly. As if by magic the dancers knew what to do to this slower more darker atmospheric music. They started to unravel their pvc tops. Needless to say this was all perfectly timed and the blokes in the audience went wild!
I had finished the set.
I was happy, very happy.
The next half an hour was a blur with people coming up to me saying how awesome the show was, I had 10 cd's to sell - they were all gone.
One of the people that approached me was quite high up in the music buisness. He was the Ex Drummer for Mudvayne, he explained to me that he really liked what he heard and proceeded to buy a cd from me. He then explaineed that he has something going on with a new band and he wants me to be part of it. I gave him my number and should be in contact soon.
Just as I had finished speaking with him my mobile rang, Cheri called from Greece, she sounded over the moon when I told her how well it had all gone, I was exstatic and felt important for the first time ever.
Mainstream Distortion has taken its first step...I have taken my first step...it's only up from here.
After all that Halvis played a magnificent set as John sat in trance on the stage putting metal through his body, I can only say that it looked painful as hell, I felt slightly sick as I watched him thread a needle through his left cheek past his tounge and out his right cheek, blood weeping from the new self addressed wounds.
And to many people's distress 6 needles in each side of your chest has got to hurt a tad.
I'll leave you all with that thought.
