Who's on first?

Dec 17, 2013 00:15

I can't believe it - I finished the creative vortex poll I mentioned I've been working on!!

Thing to do (in no particular order)DescriptionPrerequisitesBeen procrastinating this since

Finish & post list of non-LJ-related things I think people'll hate me forMaybe it would be better to also get all of these worries (and, of course, the ones in the LJ-related part that I'm still worried about) to rest first, regardless of how long it takes?
Note that while I've been calling this part the "non-LJ-related things", it's really just anything besides my LJ entries and comments. So there's actually some LJ stuff in there as well. In fact, I even forgot to include one LJ entry in the first part of the list, so hopefully I'll remember it and put it with this part.I might need to reread all of the notes from my autism therapy first (including the ones I've already reread) just to make sure I don't miss anything in there that needs to go in the list. Not too long ago - I worked on it in between periods of working on the LJ-related part of the list

Finish & post list of things that shouldn't remind me of FCT but doMaybe this too, especially since this part will also explain why I'm worried about the other thingsMight be better to have all other parts of the list up first so I can link to themNot too long ago - I worked on it in between periods of working on the LJ-related part of the list

Catch up on LJ friends page moreWhile posting the first phase of that list, I felt bad asking you all to make sure to read and comment on most of it when I hadn't checked my LJ friends page in a long time. And now it feels like a lot of things have probably changed in the meantime. I did catch up on it some, but only November 2013 and later.I was going to say that before I read too many, I need to filter certain tags from certain journals and make sure asperger, ask_me_anything and thequestionclub have all been removed from the communities I'm watching (I think I did, but I'm not sure) so I can reduce the number of triggers I see, but I've done that nowJust now because I decided to do that first and ask you about the rest afterward, but before that, I don't even know anymore. I think I originally stopped checking it regularly in 2011 or so because I felt I needed more time to work on creative vortexes, but I haven't figured out exactly when that was even after I tried to.

Post long-overdue Garfield Randomizer etc. entryFor a while I would post Garfield Randomizer comics after every time I hadn't updated my LJ in a while (and the last time I did that I also included Garkov, Previously on the X-Files, and Jesus Markoving Christ), but I haven't done that for the last several times I didn't post to LJ for a while.NoneDepends on how long a gap between entries has to be before it counts as a hiatus, but could've been as early as May 12, 2012

Make a more useful set of tags for my memories and start putting more entries I often link to in itAfter this conversation, I decided to start putting entries I link to a lot in my memories to make it easier to link to them in the future, but I only used it like this for a while, and the tag list for them kind of looks weird in its current state.NoneLast time I added an entry to it was May 31, 2011... or possibly later; I didn't look under ALL the tags. But I can tell it was definitely before November 17, 2011. The Forbidden Comment Threads are so embedded in my mind that even if I remember nothing else about what day I did something on, I usually know whether it was before or after I first read the
FCT.

Make more userpicsI have over 150 ideas for userpics that I haven't made (or at least haven't uploaded yet), and that's just what I've happened to remember and then continue remembering long enough to write down in a text file. And they still distract me at least as badly as they did the last time I uploaded one that wasn't the "nightmare fuel" userpic I made for the list of things I was worried you'd hate me for. Some of them have individual prerequisites such as finding out how to take screenshots from my 3DS and transfer them to my computer, but for userpics in general, the only prerequisite is making a poll asking which ones you'd like me to upload first. The nightmare fuel userpic was pretty recent, and the anti-SOPA/PIPA/ACTA variations weren't that much less recent, but:
- The last userpic that wasn't made because of worry about either possible Internet censorship or anything I said in the past was that /crazymegavideo/ one, which was made at some point before February 2012.
- The last such userpic that I uploaded as a userpic was "tree + b = mailbox", which I uploaded on July 15, 2011 at the latest.

Get my work rate calculator program mostly workingRemember when I said I was working on a program to prioritize everything else I need to work on, whether homework or creative vortexes? Due to working on the list, I'm still not done with that program, but I've thought of another approach to programming it and I think it might be a little easier to do in Java.None March 20, 2012 or later

Make a work rate calculator program just for the list of things that remind me of the Forbidden Comment ThreadsOriginally, while I was working on that part of the list, I had an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of what sites I still needed to check for examples I'd forgotten about of things that remind me of the Forbidden Comment Threads, as well as approximately how many pages there were left on each site. (Remember the times I predicted when I'd be completely done with it? This is how.)

But this sort of thing might be easier to do with a program, especially due to websites' different (and sometimes irregular) update schedules and since I've already considered how to program it.NoneNot that long ago, since I thought of the idea pretty recently, but I haven't started on it

Synesthesia programQuite some time ago, I tried making a program where I type in some text and it displays it with my (or, if I make it customizable, any other person's) grapheme→color synesthesia, but since I did that with Visual Basic 6 and I have Visual Studio 2010 now, and I'm not sure if I still have the files for the old version (which didn't even support multi-colored characters, Unicode, or all of the details of my synesthesia), I'll have to make a new one. Fortunately, I know Visual Studio 2010 has enough of the features I need to make a more complete version of it. So does Java, possibly.NoneIt has to have been after I knew I had synesthesia and after I figured out for sure what most of my colors were, so quite some time after April 8, 2009 (because in that entry I was wrong about some of the colors), but I'm sure it was before I started on the work rate program.

Backup LJ userpics and stuff againI really don't want this to happen a second time, so I should probably make a backup just in case (and update it every now and then).NoneI recovered what I could from the first time I accidentally deleted my LJ folder, which was August 18, 2012.

Finish MS Paint memesRemember this? How many people asked for MS Paint memes? Six, so far. For how many people did I think of something to draw? I think all 6, but I only remember what 5 of them were right now. How many drawings did I finish? One. How many did I even start on at all? One.NoneJune 25, 2012, because that's when I finally finished the first one.

Submissions for Square Root of Minus GarfieldThe longer I wait to start submitting comics for SROMG, the more times a strip submitted by someone else that happens to be similar to one of my ideas gets published. In fact, I could've started the Jon's donut meme if I'd started contributing as soon as I found the site! (I only linked to the first instance of it so I can finish this entry sooner)NoneWhenever I discovered SROMG, which was soon before October 16, 2011

Submissions for Lightning Made of Owls(see above, replace "SROMG" with "LMOO", "a strip submitted by someone else that happens to be similar to one of my ideas" with "a script in the Script Bin that I wanted to draw", and the bit about the Jon's donut meme with nothing)It'd probably help to make some more MS Paint memes first so I can get better at drawing, even though good drawing isn't really a requirement in LMOO. I also kind of want to submit a few of my SROMG ideas first because I became interested in contributing to that one first.Sometime between October 16, 2011 and February 2012 (since the latter is when I actually finished this entry, even though I wouldn't post it for another 3 months)

Submissions for Comments on a PostcardComments on a Postcard is another collaborative webcomic on the same site as SROMG and LMOO that I'm interested in contributing to. All of the "comics" in COAP are intentionally-broken images with annotations describing the comic as if it was there, and there's also different fictional backstories about the comic.I kinda want to submit some of my ideas for SROMG or LMOO (for which I'd actually have to actually edit or draw comics, respectively) before I submit anything for COAP.Sometime between October 16, 2011 and August 13, 2012. Yeah, that's kind of vague, but that's all I remember about the date I first considered submitting anything for COAP. I don't even know whether I first considered contributing to it after I wanted to contribute to LMOO or vice versa.

Make program to decide what interests to put in my profileSince I have over 150 things I want to have as interests on LJ, I've thought about making a program that, given a list of all my entries and comments I can find and which ones are about each interest I want to use, picks 149 of the ones I've talked about most frequently/recently (the 150th will always be "more than 150 interests" unless LJ increases the limit to the total amount of interests I want to use or more) so that I can put those as my interests. But not always the 149 most frequent/recent interests - it'll be programmed so that all of the others (especially those just under the top 149) get turns being swapped out with the top 149 temporarily. Furthermore, there'll be a complete list in my bio - I just need 149 (well, 150) to use for me be found with the interest search.NoneI don't even remember when I thought of this idea. I know it was after I made that post about the work rate program, though.

Make program to pick the 4,000 most useful tagsSimilar to the above, I might be able to come up with an algorithm to objectively determine what set of 4,000 tags out of all that I could put on my entries minimizes how interchangeable any two of them are with each other.NoneAround the same time as the above

Random maintenance on old entries: change tags to conform to current standards, fix any invisible text that I still haven't fixed back when I changed the background color of my journal, and add missing repost buttons, links to previous and next things, and possibly transcriptsThe tags part wouldn't be the same thing as the above - if I decide to do this first, it'll simply be adding tags to entries tagged "tags will come later", removing tags that are probably useless to make room for some new ones, and so on. The invisible text part may already be done, but I'd like to go through and check. Missing repost buttons and previous/next links are exactly that. Some images in my journal have transcripts under them because I have a blind LJ friend, but not all because I haven't decided whether to go back and add transcripts to the rest or whether I somehow offended her by adding the ones I have. (I wasn't even sure whether or not to link to her journal here for the same reason...)For the transcripts part, I need to decide what to do, but other than that, no prerequisitesVarious dates. Don't really remember when any of them were.

Finish reading my autism self-help booksI asked for some autism self-help books for Christmas while still in high school because I was worried I wouldn't do well at all in college, and I received some, but I ended up so busy with homework and creative vortexes that I didn't read them very much. I probably should, given that I'm technically a senior starting next semester and I'm still not 100% sure what to do with my life after college...NoneI did read parts of a couple of them, but don't remember when I last did

Start working on PrtSc Land remake/parody/continuationYou know how I've been planning to make a new version of PSL that makes fun of the first three versions of it but also has some new material? While I'd like to start posting it on the 10th or 12th or (some other nice number)th anniversary of PrtSc Land, I'd need to start drawing it way early to have enough in advance to keep up with the update schedule once I start. And now would also be a good time to start writing down some of my ideas so hopefully they won't distract me every minute and a half while I'm supposed to be listening in class or doing homework :\For writing down the ideas: I need to find some way to get all of the archived old versions in one place so I can figure out what to do to make fun of each old strip and where I can fit my new ideas into the continuity.

For drawing it: I should probably make a decent number of comics for Lightning Made of Owls first - remember, I was gonna also use that as drawing practice for this. It's hard to say exactly when my idea for a new version of PSL finally went from "I'm gonna get rid of the screenshot-based comics and hand-draw all comics without using sprites for anything, but still use the same contrived plot idea" to "How about I archive the old versions along with better-drawn parodies of them? Ooh, and maybe some new strips! And I have a better idea for a main plot!" because there were various intermediate stages along the way. But depending on when this happened, anywhere from 2009 to 2013.

And I never really wrote down any of my ideas at any stage (except I think I wrote down a couple back when I was planning on just getting rid of the screenshot-based comics, but I probably don't even have them now)

Get Ours Will You 1-Up back upEven if there aren't any Internet memes based on horrible misunderstandings of what remained of my backwards lyric site, Ours Will You 1-Up, after I took it down years ago to redesign it, I'd better get it back up before there are! O_OI still need to figure out exactly what the best way to run the site is.

Should I take requests so that there'll be a better selection of music on the site, or would that just lead to only songs with already-controversial (forwards/backwards) lyrics being requested?

Would the answer to this change if I only allowed my LJ friends to request songs/contribute backwards lyrics? Or if I made a LJ community for OWY1U contributors that anyone can request to join, but that I can ban anyone from if they cause trouble?

What if I allowed LJ friends/OWY1U community members/anyone to contribute drawings of characters and things based on backwards lyrics, like how I have Wænya already? Would this make things better or worse?

I definitely shouldn't censor as many words in the backwards lyrics as I originally did, but should I censor anything? And if so, should I have both censored and uncensored versions of those pages?

Should I make OWY1U's pages viewable only by me until I have the site completely redesigned? That seems like the best thing to do considering how easily exactly what words I censored in the backwards lyrics could become controversial or how easily the point of the site could be misunderstood, but pathvain_aelien still insists I should leave the fake error page up and all the backwards lyric pages visible.

And so on and so forth...I don't even remember anymore. Probably before November 2010.

Finish writing Moya's Space LogAnyone remember Moya's Space Log? No, of course not, because I didn't write it very far...I still need to completely convince myself that it's still a good idea and that I can get answers to my questions about parts of it - this didn't helped as much as I was hoping.November 2010... actually February 2011, but I didn't post what I wrote then because I didn't write very much further, then ended up procrastinating some more and lost that part (which I was planning to rewrite anyway) when I accidentally deleted my LJ folder.

Make a Mario mood themeI've been using the same default mood theme ever since I joined LJ, so I've thought about making a Mario one to decorate my journal style a little :)NoneNever, though I think I've had the idea since 2011 or earlier

Start a dream journalSince _dreams_ isn't very active anymore (and I probably annoyed most of the members, which I still think could be a reason why it now has moderated posting), I've thought about starting a separate journal just for descriptions of some of my dreams, past and present.I kind of want my userpics for the dream journal to be the same as the ones I have on my main journal, except made out of lots of semi-random shapes to give them a "vague dream" sort of feel.
One time I found a website where you type in something and it draws an animated blur of Google image search results for that query, and even says that dreams are more like that than like really clear images. I don't remember where that site was, but that's where I got my idea (even though I don't have exactly the same idea) and I think I could write a program that makes "vague" versions of my userpics (or any other images).
So if I want to start a dream journal with userpics like this, actually writing the program and getting it working would be a prerequisite.Never. I don't remember exactly how long I had the idea except that I thought of it around the time I first started thinking I'd offended everyone in _dreams_.

Update glossaryRemember my glossary of Matt1993isms that is pretty outdated right now?Technically none, though I do want to add images to my glossary, which will probably work out better if I make some more MS Paint memes and/or some Lightning Made of Owls strips first for practice. Or, alternately, maybe this would make good practice for those...So long ago that "Forbidden Comment Threads" isn't in there!!

It was recent enough that "Schrödinger's Enya" and "Schrödinger's Sarah McLachlan" are, though, so definitely sometime in 2011.

Post in friending communitiesI kind of want to post in communities like add_me and newfriends, but I haven't yet.I also want to get my profile, glossary, and tags out of the non-Euclidean mess they're in first...I first considered posting in such a community when awehla mentioned one - and she left LJ years ago!

Post in depression communitiesAfter I alienated the maintainers of depressionsucks, I thought about joining more depression communities because that might help with all of the things I'm still worried about. Posting the ones that are my LJ entries and comments helped a little, but it doesn't seem entirely real that none of them are anything to worry about yet...Maybe finish and post the other parts of the list to my own journal first?Ever since I heard about some besides depressionsucks

Post in omgrandom moreIt's a really cool community that's similar to ask_me_anything and thequestionclub, but with a zero tolerance drama policy so I can actually feel safe there! I have some more ideas for questions to post there, but I haven't because of homework, working on some of these other things, and writing that first part of the list of worries. And, of course, procrastinating. I really should since something I wrote helped inspire its creation in the first place, and also since the last post in it was in December 2012...NoneFairly soon after my latest post there, which I think was before the Forbidden Comment Threads

Post in goodbandnames moreThe last time I checked, there haven't been any new posts in that community for a while. Maybe if I posted, it'd become active again?NoneProbably pretty soon after my latest post there, too. And I think that was before the Forbidden Comment Threads as well...

Make userboxes for my profileSometimes I read random userpages on wikis (usually the Homestar Runner Wiki and Mario Wiki); whenever I see userbox towers, I'm usually so amused by them that I almost want to create an account just so I can make my own, but (discounting the account I made years ago on the Homestar Runner Wiki to promote PrtSc Land with) that's not going to happen anytime soon because talk pages on those wikis can be almost as draumatic (my new portmanteau of drama and traumatic ;) ) as communities like autism and asperger sometimes, so I've thought about making a userbox tower on my LJ profile instead (and even attempted to start it, but lost it by accidentally deleting my LJ folder).None, I thinkDefinitely before the Forbidden Comment Threads. Don't remember exactly when.

Finish rereading therapy notesRemember when I was rereading the notes from my autism therapy and sometimes posting about interesting findings?None, I thinkDon't remember exactly. I think this was before the Forbidden Comment Threads as well, too.

Make Christmas, Halloween, Easter, Fourth of July, St. Patrick's Day, and/or PrtSc Land variations of userpicsPretty much what's mentioned here. Except now I'm thinking drawings of Christmas cookies, Easter eggs and jack-o'-lanterns based on my normal userpics would be a better idea than making and photographing actual ones. And now I've thought of the Fourth of July idea, which would probably be recoloring them to mainly red, white and blue much like the St. Patrick's Day ones would be recolored to green and (now definitely) orange.I need to figure out exactly which of these would be good ideas. I can see Fourth of July and St. Patrick's Day variations becoming divisive if done on all (or even most) of my userpics, and I don't know how I would do Fourth of July versions of my Emocrat and Invinciblican userpics since they're already red, white and blue...At this point, I'm so tired of procrastinating this entry and being too busy to work on it that I don't even care when the last time I worked on PSL variations of them was or whether or not it was before the Forbidden Comment Threads (though I think it was). I do know that I haven't worked on the other variations at all, though.

Poll What should I do first?

I hope the poll shows up...

EDIT: It did, but I accidentally put "Finish rereading" as an option when it should've been "Finish rereading therapy notes" and I can't change it now. Oh well.
