“Thanks.”
Hikaru patted Takaki’s shoulder, “Don’t mention it. You can always call us if you need help.”
And again, the latter thanked Hikaru as he smiled weakly after he received the brown envelope. He went to his car as he opened the envelope and smiled faintly as he started the car. Now that he got some information, he needs to confirm them-in Chiba.

“Amnesia? H-how?”
“He has dissociative amnesia. An amnesia caused by witnessing a violent scene or accident. I think he’s traumatized. Dissociative amnesia has 4 types. Generalized-an amnesia that involve the patient’s whole life. Localized-no memory of a specific traumatic event that took place. Selective-remembers only some parts of events that occurred in a defined period of time and Systematized-memory loss regarding a specific category of information.” Yabu explained as he looked at the boy peacefully sleeping at the couch.
“So what of amnesia does he have?”
“Let me ask you first. Does Arioka remember you?”
Takaki was taken aback when Yabu asked him that question. Because he, himself, doesn’t know the answer.
“So he doesn’t. He’s experiencing either selective or systematized.” Yabu tapped his shoulder, “Takaki, I can see that he wants to remember. Help him.”
--
After an hour, he arrived at the place. Takaki parked his car at the side. He fixed himself as he took a deep breath. He’s here and it’s now or never. Slowly, he walked in front of a simple two-storey house.
He rang the door bell and after a few seconds, it was opened and he was greeted by a woman in her forties.
“Yes, may I help you?”
Takaki bowed politely and said, “Sumimasen, are you Arioka Risa?” Though shocked, the lady nodded. “I’m here because I want to talk about your nephew, Arioka Daiki.”
“I see.” The young man seems harmless that’s why she nodded, “Please came in.”
“Shitsureishimasu.” He removed his shoes and put on the indoor slippers. Risa guided him at the living room and left him there and came back again with tea and some baked cookies.
Takaki looked around the house as he sat at the couch-it’s a normal house and he can feel love around it. “Do you live alone, Arioka-san?”
“My eldest son is actually working abroad. My daughter is now at Kyoto, working too while my youngest isn’t at home yet. He’s in college now.” She took a sip from her tea, “Oh, may I know who you are?”
“My apologies. I’m Takaki Yuya.” He bowed again, “Daiki’s err-friend?” He scratched his head, “I’m with him yesterday and-“
“You’re with him?” She sounds relieved. “My nephew..” Her face looks sad and Takaki can sense that she isn’t faking it. “I haven’t seen him for years.”
“I was with him yesterday and we went to the hospital. His head was aching these past few days and we went there to have some check up. And w-we found that he has a-amnesia.”
Daiki’s auntie seemed shocked, “U-until now?”
“That’s why I’m here, Arioka-san. Please tell me what happened.” He bowed again, “Onegai shimasu.”
“Young man, please raise your head.” She tapped Takaki’s shoulder, “You seem close to my nephew and I can see that I can trust you. So I will tell you everything. This can help him too.”
“Please do.”
Risa took a deep breath, “Daiki’s father is my elder brother. I’m divorced that’s why I’m carrying the surname ‘Arioka’. Our family originally leaves here-in Chiba. But in Tokyo, work is there and life will be easier there that’s why my brother decided to leave Chiba and go to Tokyo-with his family. And because Kami-sama is nice to us-they worked out and earn a living. And after that, he decided to take our mother-Daiki’s grandmother-with them.”
She continued, “I sometimes visit my brother there if I have some free time because I’m working too. But something unexpectedly happened.. my brother and his wife were caught into an accident. The two of them were on a business trip and their cruise ship suddenly got a problem and the next thing they knew, the ship that they’re riding on sank.”
“It was a few weeks when they confirmed that they were dead. My mother took care of Daiki. I wanted too but I have my own family..” Her eyes started to get watery, “Daiki was only 6 years old by that time but he’s really a good boy.”
“He’s doing the house hold chores alone even though mom is prohibiting him. He always tells us that from now on, he’ll be taking care of mom for her not to vanish like his parents. He’s really a responsible and independent kid.”
Takaki handed her his handkerchief, “But like his parents, mom died. Daiki was 11 when that happened, after his graduation ceremony at his primary school, he stopped at the park at that moment and played for a while when he saw a car running fast at the main road.”
“After that, he heard a loud familiar scream and due to his curiosity he ran to it and saw the car-hitting my mom. She was hit by a car and Daiki witnessed everything.”
“After the incident, I got Daiki and we lived in Chiba. But it didn’t last. After a weeks of that incident, Daiki will be screaming late at night and we’ll go rush to his room and we’ll see a sight of him closing his eyes and banging his head on his pillow or sometimes, at the wall. It repeated a lot of times and I got scared so I went to the hospital with him and there, we found out that he’s traumatized. He lost his parents at a young age and the person taking care of him for almost 5 years died in front of him.”
“It didn’t took a little while, he forgotten everything. He didn’t recognize me and even my children making him scared and run away.”
Takaki absorbed everything she said. Risa stood up and came back again bring a box, “Here. The things that Daiki left. I know I can trust you, Takaki-san. These can help him.” The latter received the box and opened it.
“This is-“ So he kept it. The ship in a bottle. There were also drawings inside the box and some old photographs. And Takaki chuckled lowly when he saw some empty boxes of pocky.
Yappari. Dai-chan is him.
“I’m really curious. Are you really Daiki’s friend?” Takaki widen his eyes, “I have this feeling that it’s more than that.”
“Well.. I-I..” He took a deep breath, “I’m the one who gave him this.” He showed the bottled ship.
“Oh! So you are the reason why Daiki always loves to play at that park.”
“I actually left Tokyo before. And I came back because of him. It’s been 10 years, actually.”
“You’re older than Daiki?”
Do I look really young? He smiled shyly, “10 years older, Arioka-san.”
“You don’t look 26 to me.” She said, still shocked. “Let me get this straight, you love my nephew, am I right?”
He answered full heartedly, “Yes.”
The random headaches that Daiki was experiencing weren’t just coincidence. The time when he collapsed at the club was because he heard Takaki’s voice after 10 years. And when he heard Takaki’s name when they introduced each other. When he furrowed his eyebrows when he’s preparing Takaki’s order at the café-it’s because he remembered something. The moment when he saw Takaki waiting for him when the sun rays were beaming at him-his head ached because he remembered someone. And when he ate ice cream, it’s wasn’t because of the brain freeze-it’s because he felt everything’s déjà vu.
--
Driving back to Tokyo, Takaki received a mail from Daiki that he’ll be waiting at the park near his workplace since his shift already ended. He sped up his car and stopped at the certain park. He saw Daiki standing near the bench looking afar.
He walked closer and hugged Daiki from behind, “Hey. I’m sorry to keep you waiting.”
“Hm.” Daiki turned around and smiled, “I talked to someone a while ago.” He showed a can of hot cocoa in his hands, “And she gave me this.”
“She?” A girl, he pouted.
“Yuya is jealous.” The younger chuckled, “I think she’s a tourist though..” And she looks rich!
“Forget about that.” He took Daiki’s hand, “You look fine now. Want to stay over?”
“Un!”
