2010 Golden Globes - Thoughts

Jan 18, 2010 01:06

So the Golden Globes were kinda like the Emmys for me. I was happy with some of the wins, pissed off my most of the others, and the show was also saved by a great host.

Ricky Gervais is probably one of the most amazing people on this planet. The opening was great. Loved how he didn't waste any time and picked on Steve Carell first. LOL And it just got better from insulting NBC, drinking on stage as promised, to giving the best Mel Gibson insult ever.

Some awesome quotes:

"On a serious note, just looking at all the faces here reminds me of the great work that's been done this year, by cosmetic surgeons. You all look great."

"And I've had a penis reduction. Just got the one now. That's enough. And it is very tiny, but so are my hands, so when I'm holding it, it looks pretty big. And let's face it, I usually am holding it. I wish I was doing that now instead of this, to be honest."

"It is an honor to be here in a room full of what I consider to be the most important people on the planet. Actors, they're just better than ordinary people, aren't they?"

"I like a drink as much as the next man, unless the next man is Mel Gibson."

My thoughts on the winners. I'll start off with the TV ones because they pissed me off less.

Best Actress in a Comedy: Toni Collette, United States of Tara
Didn't really care about this that much, but I would have bee happier if Tina Fey or Edie Falco had won.

Best Supporting Performance by an Actor in a TV Series: John Lithgow, Dexter
Definitely well deserved. He was amazing in Dexter. Hopefully he'll be getting an Emmy soon too.

Best Male Performance for Drama Television Series: Michael C. Hall, Dexter
My favorite win of the night. I wasn't even expecting this at all because I thought Jon Hamm, or Hugh Laurie would definitely win. I'm so happy for him and I like how he waited to say he was battling cancer after the ballots were submitted, so none of you fuck heads can say he won out of sympathy. (:

Best Actor in a Comedy/Variety/Musical Show: Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
No surprises there. It feels strange that this is the only category 30 Rock won. lol

Best Drama Series: Mad Men
After Michael C. Hall and John Lithgow won, I thought Dexter had a good chance of winning this, but Mad Men had to crush those dreams once again. lol I can still hope for an Emmy win.

Best Comedy Series: Glee
YESSSSSSS! I was worried after all of the actors lost, but I was so beyond happy when it actually won.

Best Supporting Actress on a TV series: Chloe Sevigny, Big Love
Jane Lynch totally got robbed. I don't even know who Chloe is, but when she ripped her dress going up to receive her award, I felt a little better tbh. (:

Now for the shitty parts movie wins.

THE GOOD

Best Supporting Actress in a Film: Mo'Nique, Precious
Well deserved and her speech was just so sweet. I think that Oscar is just waiting for her now.

Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture: Christoph Waltz, Inglourious Basterds
He's unstoppable right now. I always look forward to hearing his speeches, and he always finds a way to say something really nice about Quentin. <3333

Best Animated Feature Film: Up
Another obvious win and to make it even better you have Paul McCartney as the presenter. I loved what he said before announcing the nominees. lol

Best Original Score for a Motion Picture: Michael Giacchino, Up
Was expecting Avatar to win this, but thankfully it didn't.

Best Actress in a Comedy Film: Meryl "T-Bone" Streep, Julie & Julia
I love this woman so effing much. Her speeches are almost as good as Tina Fey's. Plus, she was adorable in Julie & Julia, so I'm happy with her winning.

Best Screenplay for a Motion Picture: Jason Reitman and Sheldon Turner, Up in the Air
I wanted Quentin to win, but I loved Up in the Air a lot, so it's ok. :P

Best Foreign Language Film: The White Ribbon
Best foreign film of the year imo. Really glad it won.

Martin Scorsese receiving the Cecil B. DeMille Award
Robert De Niro's speech was great and I actually wasn't expecting it to be that funny. lol What makes me love this even more is that Scorsese got to say something about De Niro, when he was being honored at the Kennedy Center Honors a couple weeks ago, and now De Niro gets to do the same. I just adore these two and all of their collaborations. <3

THE NOT SO BAD

Best Actor in a Comedy/Musical: Robert Downey Jr., Sherlock Holmes
Ok, at first I wasn't too happy, but his speech made up for and I just can't hate on RDJ. :P I still would have preferred to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Stuhlbarg, or even Daniel Day-Lewis win. I don't care if Nine was crap, I just like seeing DDL win. LOL

Best Actor in a Drama Film: Jeff Bridges, Crazy Heart
I still haven't seen Crazy Heart, but I wasn't extremely happy he won. I'm a Clooney fangirl, so I was really rooting for him. That might change after I watch Crazy Heart, but right now Clooney ftw. Only reason I thought Bridges winning wasn't so bad is because I can actually understand why he won unlike some people. Plus, it's not like I could even come up with anything bad to say about the guy. LOL

THE UGLY

Best Director: James Cameron, Avatar
This is where everything fell apart. Kathryn Bigelow should have easily won this, and I'll be so fucking pissed if she doesn't win the Director's Guild Award, or an Oscar. Please. I don't think I'll be able to listen to another one of Cameron's speeches. I'm glad Cameron was able to admit she should have won at least.

Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama: Sandra Bullock, The Blind Side
I don't really have anything against her. She's a great person and all, but she wasn't nearly as good as Carey Mulligan imo, who was robbed once again. I guess it's hopeless to believe she'll even have a shot at winning an Oscar now, since everyone seems to think Sandra or Meryl will win. :/

Best Comedy/Musical Movie: The Hangover
Seriously? People actually thought this was better than (500) Days of Summer? LOL I don't even know what to say.

Best Drama Motion Picture: Avatar
I liked Avatar, but I don't think it was nearly as good as The Hurt Locker and Up in the Air. :/ Just because a film looks pretty doesn't mean it should win tbh. All of the attention it's starting to get is really starting to make me like it less. Guess I should start praying it doesn't get an Oscar.
