Chapter 11:

Doubt is a beautiful strength,
but be careful to always use it to move on
and not to get down...

Time passed slowly and Sho made lots of progress, though his re-education wasn't over. The rapper was working hard everyday and slowly, his legs started to cooperate a bit. He couldn't stay on his feet, but when he went to his sessions he was able to stand up because of the physical therapy bars. Aiba was spending all his time with Sho to help and reassure him as much as possible. Unfortunately, today was definitely a bad day for Sho who didn't manage to 'walk' and fell several times on the ground.

"It's useless, I can't stand on these fucking legs!!!" Sho snapped angrily.

"Try again. It's normal your body aches. You have to be patient," Heroki said softly.

"I'm patient! I've been patient for two fucking months and I just can make three meters!" Sho replied.

"Your legs won't work in record time. You have to fight for that."

"It's easy to say that. You can walk normally!"

"Aiba-san."

"Hun?"

"Help Sakurai-kun to finish his exercise."

"Hai." Aiba wrapped Sho's waist and lifted him up, helping the rapper to take the bars. Sho's jaw clenched and the singer made a little step. "Omedetou! Go on, Sho!" Aiba exclaimed. Sho nodded and continued, sweat rolling down his temples. After two steps, Sho fell on the ground again.

"It's useless."

"Sho, let's try again!" Aiba implored.

"Don't touch me!" Sho snapped when his lover approached him.

"But Sho..."

"Let him do it by himself if he is too stubborn and stupid to accept some help," Heroki said coldly.

"Sensei!" Aiba protested.

"Don't waste your time with someone who gives up so easily," Heroki replied.

"How dare you?!" Sho snapped.

"What about you?! How dare you talk like that to your lover when all he wants is to help you?!"

Sho blinked at the tone of the doctor and lowered his eyes.

"I'm sorry, Ma-chan."

"It's okay." Aiba knelt down and hugged his lover. "Let's try again."

"You should go to see Elena," Heroki said after the session.

"Eh?"

"Sakurai-kun has reached his limits. He needs someone able to understand him and prove to him it's worth to fight."

"We will go this afternoon then."

"Don't take his harsh words seriously. He is just angry at himself and you're the easiest punching bag for him. But if he goes too far like today, don't hesitate to act like me to make him realize he is out of line. If you don't do it, he will continue to treat to you poorly."

"Okay. Thank you, sensei."

"He has made lots of progress, but he has to keep fighting."

When Aiba left the hospital, Sho grabbed his arm to stop him.

"What's wrong?" Aiba smiled. Sho pulled him down and kissed him deeply.

"I'm sorry. I acted like an asshole with you." Sho looked away when the kiss stopped.

"It's okay."

"No, it's not. You do everything to help me and I talk to you like a dog while I'm just angry at myself and not at you. I shouldn't yell at you but I don't know how to deal with all of this. I'm used to burying my pain deep inside, but now I'm in this wheelchair... I don't know how to hide it anymore..."

"We don't want you to hide it."

"I know, but it's hard for me to talk about my feelings. I...was raised in a family where the appearance is the most important. My parents never hugged me or kissed me. It was a shame to cry and I learned to hide everything. I'm trying to change but it's hard and sometimes everything explodes because I don't know how to..."

"There are no rules for that, Sho. It hurt me when you screamed at me but I prefer that than if you kept everything inside. If you want, we could talk about your feelings every night. You can just tell me what you want to say. You can just cry or talk about a memory. It doesn't matter as long as you talk."

"I'll try."

"We'll manage to erase all this pain and anger in your heart." Aiba smiled while climbing in the car. After a moment, Sho frowned and looked at his lover.

"Where are we going?"

"Somewhere where there is a person able to understand you." Aiba chuckled mysteriously.

Sho frowned again but didn't add anything. He waited to arrive at their destination to see what his boyfriend meant. His eyes widened when Aiba parked his car in front of a big property. There were lots of horses in big meadows and several riders jumping obstacles.

"Where are we?"

"At Kobayashi's stables." Aiba grinned.

"Who's that?"

"Kobayashi Hikaru is a very famous rider in the world of horses. He won lots of prizes and created his own stable to raise future champions."

"And why do you want to see him?"

"We are not here to see him but his daughter, Elena."

"Why?"

"I want you to meet her. She is a very special girl." Aiba smiled and pushed the wheelchair toward the first building.

"Aiba-kun, it's been a long time! How are you?!" A tall man exclaimed with a smile.

"Fine, Kobayashi-san. Sorry for disturbing."

"It's okay, don't worry. And you must be Sakurai-san?" The man smiled kindly to Sho.

"Yes." Sho bowed with lost eyes.

"Elena is in the first manège."

"Thank you." Aiba bowed and pushed the wheelchair toward a big manège full of obstacles where a girl on a beautiful horse was jumping. "This is Kobayashi Elena. She is 16 years old and has also won lots of competitions." Aiba explained.

"What..."

"Look at her." Aiba cut Sho off.

The rapper sighed and looked at the girl. Sho had to admit she was a great rider, her body moving in a perfect way with her horse as if they were forming one. The horse was obeying perfectly, flying above the obstacles as if he was just jumping above a little stone.

"She is amazing." Sho gasped at the end of the round.

"Yes. Her horse is pretty good too."

"She is very close to her horse. If not, they wouldn't jump like that." Aiba explained. The girl suddenly saw them and approached them on her horse.

"Aiba-chan, hello."

"Hello, Elena-chan. How are you?"

"Fine, thanks. Storm did great today," the girl exclaimed happily, stroking her horse's neck. "Oh, and nice to meet you. You must be Sakurai-san."

"Yes. Nice to meet you."

"Excuse me one second, I need my chair and I'll greet you properly." The girl chuckled and immediately, a man approached with a wheelchair. Storm knelt down and the man helped her to climb off its back before putting her in the chair.

"What..." Sho gasped when Elena approached them.

"Sorry for my impoliteness. I'm Kobayashi Elena." The girl held out her hand to Sho who took it with shocked eyes.

"You're... You're..."

"Paralyzed? Yes, I am obviously." Elena laughed.

"But... But you were riding like a pro!"

"Who said handicapped couldn't ride?" Elena asked mockingly.

"I..."

"I leave you two alone for a moment. I'll take care of Summer Storm," Aiba proposed.

"Thank you, Aiba-chan." Elena grinned and pushed on the wheels to move away, followed by Sho.

The rapper followed the girl in the stables. Now he had seen her state, Sho saw all the installations made for her in the stables. Everything had been created to make things as easy as possible.

"I wasn't born handicapped. One day, my mother drove me to my competition. It was raining a lot and unfortunately, a van crashed into our car because the driver was drunk. My mother died immediately and I ended up paralyzed."

"How did you manage to ride again?"

"I fell in a deep depression for several months. I couldn't bear the sight of a horse and riding was over for me. I stayed all day in my bedroom, crying over my unfair fate. My horse, Summer Storm, was a gift from my mother. It's me who trained him and we are very close, but after losing my mother and legs, I refused to see him. It was too painful. For six months, I rejected everybody and my father lived in hell because of my behavior. One day, I heard screams from outside and saw the stables in fire. My father wasn't at home and I left my bedroom for the first time. Everybody was running everywhere to save the horses inside the stables. And I realized Storm was still inside..."

"What did you do?" Sho asked, his eyes glued on the girl.

"I didn't think and entered the stables. I had already lost my mother, I couldn't lose my horse too. Luckily, his box wasn't far and I opened it. Storm panicked and made me fall on the ground accidentally."

"How..."

"I thought this time I was going to die and I regretted my behavior of those last months. I hadn't told my father how much I loved him, I just had screamed and said nasty words. I was going to die and he thought I hated him. I also regretted not to have rode a last time because I rejected Storm so much. But my horse did something incredible. He didn't leave the stables and laid down on the ground next to me. I grabbed his hair and raised my body on his back. Adrenaline can give you lots of strength." Elena giggled. "Once on his back, Storm ran away from the stables and led us outside to safety."

"He is amazing."

"Yes. I cried a lot. My own horse saved me after I was rejecting him for six months because of the accident. I realized how much of an egoist I had been."

"You suffered."

"Of course I did, but it wasn't a reason for rejecting everyone. My father did everything to help me by making my life easier with all the installations at home and in the stables. He showed me lots of patience and kindness when I was just nasty. I suffered, but attacking him was very unfair and selfish. Not many people have someone ready to help them despite the difficulties and the harsh words you can say. At least, the best way to thank them is to fight and not to reject them. Rejecting a person who loves you and does all she can to help you is the worst behavior you can have. You think you are acting well by pushing her away from your pain but you only hurt this person."

"How do you know?"

"My father told me that. He said my harsh words hurt him but the worst was my rejection. He told me he could bear the hurtful words as long as I fought and didn't push him away. My father only wanted to be here for me. We always need someone even if we think we don't deserve that person. In fact, we only don't deserve him or her when we reject them and just complain about ourselves without trying to change."

"How did you do to change? I know Masaki wants to help me, but I have this anger in my heart and can be very nasty with him. What can I do to adjust my behavior?"

"You're the only one able to find the answer. You have to find something able to make you want to change. It can be a little thing like wanting to have a lover or a good job. It can be a dream or even the will to be happy and have friends and a family. Whatever it is, as long as it gives you the will to fight, it's what you need. What do you prefer? Staying like this, blaming the world of your state, ending up alone and unhappy or fighting for a better life?"

"But it's so hard to fight."

"Who said it was easy? Life isn't all made of teddy bears and skittles. You complain about your state? We all have our pains and burdens to bear. The difference is who we have by our side. You have the chance to have a family and a lover while some people are completely alone. Don't you think their biggest joy would be to see you happy even if it means they will receive sometimes harsh words and complaints from you? It's normal to complain about your state, but the difference is when you also fight to change. If you only complain about yourself and don't even try, then yes, it's better to be alone. Be honest. Don't you feel happy to have Aiba, to have someone who believes in you?"

"Yes. Even when I feel very bad, knowing I have him help me to feel better and makes me happy."

"Then, the most beautiful reward you can give him is to prove him he doesn't believe in you for nothing. Just fighting will make him happy and he will never think he is losing his time with you. If you think he gives you a lot while you can't give him anything in return, then you are wrong. If he is by your side, don't you think it's because he loves you? Believe me. Rejecting him will only hurt him."

"I'm so scared..."

"You've been through a lot. Now you're scared to be happy and be able to make other people happy. Trust me, you can do it."

"You rode again after the fire?"

"Not immediately. I needed time to heal. I started slowly by leaving my bedroom to spend more time with my father. After that, I went to see the horses just to greet them. Then I started to spend some time with Storm. I was stroking him, feeding him and even taking him for a walk with a rein."

"How long did it take you to ride him?"

"Four months. I did some research and discovered the handicapped could ride. I met a specialist working with handicapped riders. He taught Storm to kneel down and obey with a horsewhip as I can't use my legs to press his sides. This training helped us to become closer than before. Today, I trust him with my life and he does everything to make thing easy for me."

"It's amazing."

"I think you should try to ride again. It would help you to feel normal and even to train your legs."

"I don't know if I can."

"You won't know if you don't try. Do you want to try with Storm?"

"But..."

"It's now or never. Try. It's time to show Aiba that he doesn't help you for nothing."

"Okay." Sho nodded and Elena smiled, turning her wheelchair to go back to the manège.

"Elena-chan?"

"Hun?"

"How do you feel today?"

"I miss my legs a lot. I still feel angry because of my accident but I also feel happy now. When I feel bad, I talk about it with my father so that I don't keep everything inside. If you don't talk about your pains, you will explode and will say horrible things to the important people in your eyes."

"Even if you say things you don't mean to the person?"

"Yes. As long as you realize you were unfair and apologize, it will be better to show your anger sometimes than keeping it inside and letting it explode one day. Plus, not telling your feelings don't help you to move on." Elena smiled kindly and stopped in front of the manège where Aiba was riding Storm. Sho's eyes widened when the younger jumped an obstacle as if it was the easiest thing of the world. "He is great, ne?" Elena chuckled.

"I have never seen him ride before except when he taught me."

"Well, Aiba-chan has been champion of jump of Japan three times after all."

"Eh?! He did competition?" Sho gasped.

"Before Sayuki's accident, yes. He won lots of prices. It's too bad the accident happened. Aiba was meant for the competition."

"Why did he stop? He still rides after all."

"Sayuki and him were lovers but also rivals. Sayuki was a very good rider and they met during a competition. Everybody said they hated each other without knowing the truth. It's something you should ask him. Aiba tries to help people, but he also forgets to think about himself. It would be good for him to talk about Sayuki to someone." Elena sighed before calling Aiba who grinned and approached them.

"I knew you would let Sho-chan ride and I warmed Storm a bit," Aiba exclaimed.

"No problem. You ride as well as before." Elena smiled before turning to Sho who was very paled. "Ready for the first step?"

Sho looked at his lover and the girl before him staring at the calm horse. It was time for him to move on and try to fight his handicap, but would he be able to confront his fears?

To be continued...

A/N: Sho is doing great, ne? XD he still has lots of progresses to make and to talk about his feelings more but he is on the good way because of Aiba :D If I remember well, there is a sexy part in the next chapter xD See you soon~
