Chapter 8: White sand

"It's time." Jun stated.
"If I don't survive to these spiders, I wanted to tell you that I've loved traveling with you. You're all precious friends for me." Aiba said dramatically.
"Stop your sappiness, I won't let anybody die today!" Nino snapped.
"Come on, if we haven't left the desert before the night, we are dead." Jun replied. "Satoshi, you stay next to me."
"Hey, I'm old enough to protect myself." Ohno protested.
"Obey, Satoshi." Nino snapped.

Soon, the warmth of the desert hit them. There was just sand. A beautiful white sand but they all knew under this sand were hiding awful creatures.

"I'm thirsty." Aiba whined.
"We haven't even crossed half of the way, be patient." Nino stated.

The sun was high in the sky, making them sweat a lot but water was too precious to be wasted.

"Jun?"
"Hun?"
"There are only spiders in this desert?"
"Yes, why?"
"Because I'm seeing something right in front of us." Ohno said.
"What?!" Jun frowned and soon, gasped. "Masaki, there are two whistler!"
"Shit, what are they doing here?!" Aiba grabbed his sword.
"What is it?" Sho asked.
"Something you don't want to meet in your life." Jun groaned. "Nino, Sho, you protect Satoshi. Masaki, with me!" Without waiting for their answer, Jun pushed Whisper and Aiba followed him.
Soon, Nino and Sho's eyes widened when they saw two monsters running toward them. They look like mantis but looked 4 meters with two long claws. Jun screamed, attacking the first one while Aiba was on the second.

"Be careful, they look hungry!" Jun yelled to his brother who nodded and avoided a hit.
"Cut its head!" Aiba shouted.
"Easy to say."
"Use your powers!"
"But..."
"Satoshi will end dead if you keep your stubbornness!"
"Okay!" Jun nodded and jumped from his horse's back to roll on the ground, avoiding a hit. The young man grabbed his sword in a fluid movement to sink it in the Whistler's long neck.
"Jun!" Aiba called. He had already cut one of the Whistler's arm but the monster had hit his face. Jun reacted in two seconds and appeared on the monster's back to sink his katana inside him, making its green blood explode.
"Are you okay?" Jun looked at his brother's cut on his cheek.
"Yes. Thank you." Aiba smiled.
"Masaki!" Sho jumped on his lover.
"I'm all right." Aiba chuckled.
"What was it?" Ohno asked.
"Whistlers. Normally, they don't come in the Spider's desert. We have to hurry because they always travel in group and they are very dangerous." Jun explained, kissing his lover's temple.
"We have to hurry, then." Nino stated.
"Yes, the night is coming." Aiba pushed his horse and the friends started to gallop.
"Shit, I'm seeing a spider." Jun screamed.
"Faster!" Aiba yelled. Ohno gasped when he saw the big dark spider. It was disgusting, like a normal spider but as big as a dog.
"Shit they are fast!" Nino swore.
"I can see the end of the desert!" Jun pointed the horizon.

They all sighed in relief when they entered the forest.

"Here, the forest scares them." Jun panted, stopping his horse.
"Is it sure?" Nino asked.
"Yes, this forest will protect us and..." Jun stopped when Aiba fell from his horse.
"Masaki!!!" Sho screamed and rushed toward his lover. "Jun! What's wrong?!"
"Let me see." The younger kneeled in front of his brother and touched his face, paling. "Shit..."
"Jun, what's wrong?!"
"Calm down, Sho." Jun opened his bag to take a small box. "The Whistler poisoned him, it happens sometimes. I think this one was bit by a spider and when he cut Masa's arm, the poison invaded his blood." Jun explained calmly, taking Aiba's shirt off. They all gasped when they saw the bleeding cut. "He has an infection."
"What can we do?! Do something, you have to..."
"Shut up, Sho!" Jun yelled. "I'm trying to stay calm and you aren't helping me! Satoshi, help me, we have to find a river."
"Okay!" The young prince nodded.
"But aren't we in the Healing Valley?" Nino asked.
"We are on the edge. The Valley is protected by this forest and if we can bring Masaki there, he will be safe." Jun laid his brother on his horse and climbed.
"Hurry up!"
"Sato, you are linked to water, try to locate the river." Jun ordered. The young prince nodded and closed his eyes, concentrating on the nature. Soon, his tattoo started to shine and they all followed Satoshi.
"Here!" Ohno pointed a small river. Jun got down and carried his brother to the edge before stripping him.
"Hold on, Masaki." Jun whispered and dived in the water with him.

"What is he doing?!" Sho asked for the nth time.
"Trust him. Jun will do everything to save his brother."  Nino said softly.
"He is here!" Ohno pointed his lover who was leaving the river with Aiba in his arms.
"How is he?!" Sho rushed toward them to take his boyfriend in his arms.
"He is weak. We have to hurry. Aki gave me some strength to make him hold but it won't be long before the poison attacked his heart."
"Masa..." Sho whispered, stroking his lover's cheek.
"Sho-chan." Aiba opened his eyes with a weak smile.
"You have to hold on, baby."
"I'll do my best. I can't die now, we haven't confronted Shadow, my mission isn't over yet."
"What..."
"I told you I have to protect Jun and Satoshi. Shadow counts on me. I can't die now, it's too early."
"You won't. Not now and not after."  Sho snapped.
"If it's my fate, I have to accept it." Aiba smiled weakly.
"Maybe you but not me. Shadow won't take you away from me." Sho hugged his lover against him tightly.
"We can't fight the fate."
"I don't care."
"Masaki, can you ride Rakuen? We need to bring you to the Healing Valley as fast as possible." Jun asked.
"I think so." Aiba whistled and his brown horse came to them, kneeled down to allow the young man to climb on him.
"Alright, we have to hurry." Jun exclaimed.
"Hai!" They all agreed and started their travel, the horses trying to be as quick as possible.
"How long..." Ohno asked.
"If we keep this rhythm... Two hours but I don't know if the horses will make it. They are exhausted." Jun sighed, stroking his horse's sweating neck.
"You can do it, Yume." Ohno whispered. The white horse neighed in agreement. They kept their rhythm, the horses galloping courageously and luckily, it was dark because the sun would have beaten them as they hadn't any water.

"Jun!" Sho screamed. The younger turned his head and saw his brother falling on the ground.
"Shit!" Jun stopped his horse and rushed toward Aiba who was moaning in pain, his cut bleeding a lot.
"Jun, do something!"
"I..." Jun bit his lip and soon, smiled with hope. The young man laid his brother on his own horse. "Whisper, I need your help, boy." Jun whispered. The horse looked at its friend intensively. "Gallop. Bring Masaki to the Healing River. Please, my friend, I need your help." Jun put his hand on the horse's forehead, a small purple light wrapping his fingers. "Can you do this for me?" The horse neighed and moving back, Jun let him leave. "I'm counting on you, boy!" The black animal started to gallop.
"Can he make it?" Sho asked worriedly.
"If there is one animal in the world able to do that, it's Whisper." Jun nodded.
"You trust a horse?" Nino frowned.
"It's not a normal horse. He saved me so many times. I know he will make it. Whisper is strong and clever. Come on, we have to join them quickly." Jun took Aiba's horse and they all continued their road.

After some kilometers, they found Whisper in front of  an amazing river with a crystalline water.

"Hey, boy!" Whisper neighed and approached its friend to have its caress.
"Where is Masaki?" Sho asked with panic.
"In the water." Jun said calmly.
"What?!"
"He is in security. Aku is taking care of him, we just have to hope it wasn't too late."
"But..."
"Sho, trust me." Jun replied. "Whisper did great, ne, my boy. I knew I could trust you." Jun stroked his horse that neighed happily.
"How long will it take?" Ohno asked softly.
"Several hours. It depends of Masa's wound." Jun explained.
"So, what do we do for the moment?" Nino groaned.
"We have to make a camp. Satoshi, you come with me, I have to teach you some things for your powers."

Ohno nodded and followed his lover. They walked for an hour in silence before reaching a small valley. Jun sat on the ground, crossing his legs.

"Come here." Ohno sat in front of him, not understanding what his lover wanted to do.
"Jun?"
"We have to connect you to Aki. He will give you some information’s about our mission."
"Okay."
"Close your eyes and do like when we practiced in the forest the first time."
"Hun."Ohno closed his eyes and soon, felt his body appearing in a mysterious place. It was still a forest but not the valley where Jun and him sat. "Where am I?"
"Hello, little prince."
"Aki?"
"I can see Jun succeeded to bring you in the Healing Valley."
"What..."
"Soon, you'll reach Arashi and will meet Shadow."
"Who is he?"
"I can't tell you, Satoshi. Shadow will be the one who will reveal you everything. You have to know that lots of secrets about your life will be revealed and it will be hard for you to accept it."
"Does it concern Jun?"
"A big part of these secrets concern Jun. He is scared of your reactions and maybe you'll hate him but keep in mind that he loves you."
"Does he know these secrets?"
"Yes. But we forbade him to tell you the truth."
"Why?"
"Because you weren't ready to know. Aku and I have prepared everything before your birth. Because we knew this day would come and we needed to prepare you. The last things you have to learn are in Arashi and Shadow will teach you everything. He also will tell you what you have to do to win against Jin."
"But..."
"Trust Jun. Your bond is powerful. Follow him. We will meet again with Jin. At this moment, you'll have some help from Aku and I. Goodbye, little prince."
"Wait! And for Masaki..."
"He will be fine. Aku is healing him, his time isn't come yet." Aki whispered for the last time.

Ohno opened his eyes slowly and saw his lover smiling softly.

"It's over?"
"Hun." Ohno nodded.
"We can go back to the camp, then."
"Don't you want to know what he told me?"
"No. What Aki told you is personal." Jun kissed his lover's temple.
"I'm scared of what Shadow will reveal me."
"Me too. If you hated me because of the truth..."
"I will never hate you. You are mine."
"And you are mine." Jun grinned.
"Can't you tell me yourself?"
"I would like to but I can't. Patience, we will find Arashi soon." Jun chuckled as they were reaching the camp. Sho was in front of the river, waiting, his eyes lost in the gap while Nino was practicing his skills, his katana dancing with his movements.
"He is beautiful." Ohno whispered.
"Yes. He is born with a sword in his hand." Jun agreed.
"I feel so bad for hurting him."
"I'm sure he understands."
"Did you tell him something?" Ohno raised an eyebrow.
"Well... Kind of..." Jun chuckled nervously.
"It's not fair." Ohno pouted.
"I know but it was necessary. Be patient."
"Okay. Look!" Ohno's eyes widened, the young prince pointing the river.
"Masaki!" Sho screamed, seeing his lover leaving the water.
"Sho..." The younger grinned and gasped when his lover jumped on him, hugging him as tight as possible.
"I thought I had lost you." Sho whispered, tears rolling down his cheeks.
"I'm fine."Aiba smiled.
"Masa! You, idiot, always trying to get the attention!" Jun snapped, smacking his brother's head before hugging him.
"I was afraid you would forget me if not." Aiba chuckled.
"Baka! Hurry up, we have to leave." Jun sighed.

"We will have to cross the forest of the whisper before finding Arashi." Jun stated.
"What is it?"
"A horrible forest." Aiba mumbled.
"It's a place where many ghosts and spirits live. They try to invade your mind and if you let them do, you can go crazy or even kill your own mother."
"How they do?"
"They use your weaknesses. You have to confront your worst fears and lies to survive."
"I think the spiders were better." Sho groaned.
"Hun." Jun nodded.
"And how do we do not to kill each other?"
"You have to accept your flaws. Don't try to hide it or they will use it against you."
"I'm going to hate this forest." Nino muttered.
"We have to trust each other and everything will be fine." Jun patted Nino's shoulder kindly.
"If you say so."

Soon, a dark forest appeared in front of them. The worst was maybe the heavy silence that wrapped them. And the darkness. The atmosphere was scaring, as if the forest knew everything about you and your heart. There weren't any animals and even the trees looked dangerous.

"Calm down, Momo." Ohno stroked the chipmunk who was burying its face in his the prince's neck.
"He is in security. The spirits don't attack animals." Jun whispered.
"Jun, the horses." Aiba suddenly said.
"Yes. Get down. We will walk from now, the horses will need some rest."

The little group continued his road, Ohno holding Jun's hand tightly while Nino was about to take his katana at every noise. Soon, whispers started to resound, making their heart flutter in fear.

"They are analyzing us. Take a deep breath and let them read you. Don't try to cheat." Jun whispered.

The whispers became louder, the tree's branches moving, the wind blowing roughly. Ohno's eyes widened when a form appeared in the dark.

"It's a spirit, don't panic. Stay calm and ignore him." Jun ordered. The spirit stared at them. In fact, he looked like a fox. A black fox with big teeth and a long tail. The animal didn't move, scanning them silently. New whispers started, following the little group.
"Jun, I think we will reach the door of the truth." Aiba whispered.
"If we are all safe, it will be Arashi after."

"Who is here?" A voice resounded when they saw a big door. Big wasn't strong enough to describe the door that was making almost 30 meters.
"We have to pass to see Shadow." Jun explained.
"And why would I agree to let you pass?"
"Because Shadow asked us to come."
"Does your heart is pure?"
"We passed the forest." Jun stated.
"Hmm..." The voice hummed but soon, a big noise resounded. "One of you is possessed!"
"Impossible!" Jun gasped and looked at his lover who was blinking in surprise.
"What's wrong?" Ohno whispered.
"Masaki!" Jun pushed Ohno violently, sending the young prince ten meters further.
"Shit!" Aiba swore, pushing Sho away.
"What's your problem?!" Nino snapped when the two brothers stared at him with dangerous eyes.
"Nino, you're possessed." Jun explained.
"What?! Don't be stupid, I'm normal!" Nino laughed.
"A spirit has invaded your mind, free yourself."
"I understand... It's you who is crazy!" Nino snapped.
"Kazu..."
"Satoshi, come here, they are possessed!"
"Sato, don't listen to him. A spirit has invaded him."
"But..."
"He has to confront him to be free."
"Kazu, listen to Jun!"
"I knew you were on his side! Traitor!" Nino yelled, taking his katana with dangerous yellow eyes.
"Nino, don't fight him. Let him read you and you'll be free!" Jun ordered.
"I knew you would betray us! Satoshi, come here now or I'll have to kill you!" Nino snapped.
"Jun, the spirit is eating his soul." Aiba panicked.
"Nino, please!" Sho implored.
"You too! Traitor!" Nino screamed and attacked the guard who avoided his hit.
"Fucking shit! Don't harm him!" Jun swore and ran toward the young guard but Nino caught his arm and threw him against a tree.
"Jun!"
"Shit, this is the power of a Ninomiya." Jun groaned, cracking his neck.
"He has Shadow's katana." Sho warned.
"Masa, Sho, attack him on the right and left. Try not to harm him!" Jun ordered. The young man took a deep breath, his purple eyes starting to shine.
"Traitor!" Nino yelled and attacked Jun with a so fluid movement that the younger didn't see him.
"The spirit has his brain." Aiba gasped when Nino raised his face, half of his body black.
"Kazu! Don't let him win! Open your mind!" Ohno implored. A dangerous aura wrapped the guard's body and with an impressive movement, Nino hit Sho on the arm, making him scream in pain.
"Give me Satoshi back." Nino growled, staring at Jun with hatred.
"Nino, wake up! Don't let him eat your soul!" Nino laughed crazily and hit the younger roughly, cutting his skin deeply.
"Jun!"
"Don't approach, Satoshi. If he eats your soul, it will be over!" Jun yelled, avoiding another hit.
"He is too strong!" Aiba groaned, almost receiving the katana in his chest.
"I don't have the choice, then." Jun sighed. Two purple flames wrapped his hands and the young man ran toward Nino who smirked.
"Take that!"
"Jun, no!!!" Aiba and Sho screamed, seeing Nino's sword sank in Ohno's stomach.
"Satoshi!!!" Jun yelled when his lover fell on the ground, spitting lots of blood.
