Icon should be "You. Out of my house." More rodents rampaging in my walls. Barely got three hours of sleep, and I had to be up early for Mass. The wretched things seem to instinctively know when I need to get up early. Thank heavens Father Rizzo has a loud, penetrating (as he would call it "Sicilian") voice, I had no trouble staying awake. Dad has set the trap and will set it every night he needs to, till this current plague diminishes.
Came home from Mass and crawled between my sheets. I'd hardly dozed off when my mother knocked on my door: my dad had found an estate sale in our neighborhood, and they had a room *full* of books, mostly vintage ones. Muttering "This better be worth it", I got up, got dressed and headed out.
And oooh, was it worth it: found several vintage Agatha Christie, also a volume of short stories and poems by Victor Hugo, some Thoreau titles I hadn't heard up, a pocket-sized King Arthur with some nice engravings and a few more. The gent running the estate sale plans to hold another sale next weekend, to clear out the last of the stuff, and he promises more books to come, since had stowed a bunch in the attic.
Came home and crashed back to sleep, did not move till six pm. when I heard a lawnmower under my window: my dad had found a lawnmower out by the kerb with a "FREE!" sign on it. Tried it out and it started on one pull. He urged me to try it and sure enough, I got it to start on that one pull. It has an electric starter, so it makes it easier to start: I decided then and there I would use this one to mow the lawn, something I've wanted to do, except I could never get the hang of the ones we'd had before.
Dinner at Cracker Barrel: I got a chicken BLT with cheese; figure I needed it, as I missed lunch. Curled up with a book when we got home: I started picking away at the stack of miscellaneous urban fantasy paperback titles I'd pulled from my shelves yesterday, so am now reading Nina Harper's "Succubus in the City". Think "Sex in the City" with demons. Not quite my cup of tea, but I like the fact that the titular character started her journey in ancient Babylon: not a culture you see represented much, at least in my experience. Other than that... it's "chick lit" with some preternatural elements.
Also watching one of my regular sources for streaming TV eps for an upload of the pilot ep of "The Strain"; I'm hearing that it's every bit as creepy as the books (and I should get back to reading it, on that note). Meanwhile, I've got the pilots of "Extant" (the premise intrigues me, and oooh, Halle Berry) and "Constantine" (looking forward to that one as I think I've squee'ed elsewhere).
