Yesterday felt uninspired on the writing front, so I spent the day helping Mom with the salads for our indoor/outdoor cookout: I shredded the bacon and chopped up most of the potatoes and all of the pickles for the loaded baked potato salad, also peeled/chopped the cucumbers for the macaroni salad.
Also watched miscellaneous documentaries on Netflix, including a *very* fascinating one about the National Film Registry (I didn't know, for instance, that they archived some otherwise home movies that had come to the attention of some professionals in the film industry), a quirky one on those "As Seen on TV" gadgets, another on the National Monopoly Championship, and -- late at night when the rest of the house was quiet -- one on the making of the infamous "Deep Throat" (yes, I know it's pr0n: the documentary was fairly tasteful. NC-17, yes, but tasteful. I'm not above Adult Content with Cultural/Artistix Merit or a Plot or a Mature Approach to certain topics, even if the characters may not have a mature mindset; what matters to me is the delivery. Whatever side of the debate one might be, it was still a ground-breaking movie. Plus, as with many things, I wanted to know what all the yelling is about).
Felt inspired today, and managed to get about half of a fic for
dn_kink2 written (like I said, I don't mind adult content, what matters to me is the delivery: my kink fics tend to be character-driven, no matter how weird the kinks get). That and I've been reading the black edition of the Death Note manga (which I recently got via various channels, including an Amazon distributor in the U.K.!) and I needed to write some fic to keep from wanting to reach into the book and smack Light Yagami silly. Mostly because I'm the kind of person who detests Black and White Morality, since I *KNOW* I don't fit into either category. So, it helps to have a fun outlet for ye annoyance (ie. putting Light into sexually embarrassing situations), plus, I get to make nice prezzies for people who wanted fics.
I should add, I'm writing ye fics in a Mead composition book with a faux leatherette cover. Found it at local Sears when I went along with the folks for a ride when they were buying a new comforter for their bed: ye notebook *looks* like the notebook in Death Note, except that it lacks the white lettering on the cover. If I ever follow through on my threat to go to a con dressed as "Elle" (ie. a Rule63!L) or "Lambda, L's twin sister just not mentioned in the series", I might get some White-Out and letter up the cover accordingly. As soon as I laid eyes on that notebook, whilst I was in the store, I knew I had to have it and I knew just what to use it for.
Also did some shopping at Wal-Mart today: I need a new pair of pants for work, since one pair is getting worn at the cuffs, plus I need two new flannel shirts for work. Found the twin to the pair of pants I was replacing, but the flannel shirts were not on the floor yet, according to one friendly, funny, middle-aged lady clerk who helped me out. Better luck next time. Also, our town's Wal-Mart now has a My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic section in ye toy department: I got myself the 12-inch Twilight Sparkle plushie I've been looking for, and as of now, she's sitting in my lap, watching me type this.
Last but not least, got the DVDs of "Person of Interest", and am delighted that the unaired alternate pilot ep is among the special features: I'd been hearing rumors that it was only on the Blu-Ray and I was concerned (I lack a Blu-Ray player, not sure when if ever I'm going to invest in one. Probably not unless Blu-Ray kills DVDs)
