Sorry for yesterday's emo entry: I had the Customer from Hell at work and it shot my nerves to pieces, plus life has been busy due to my dad taking time off from work in order to do some stuff around the house.
Anyway, Customer from Hell: It wasn't even a bad day up until that point. People were a little less cranky, due to the weather being nice, and the frazzled parents were seeing the light at the end of the Summer Tunnel, ie. Kids Going Back To School (we've had lunchboxes turn up at work and the rest of the school supplies aren't far off).
Then comes this big guy who's at least a head taller than I am, and roughly twice my body weight. Very Particular about how his stuff is bagged. Very. As in bosses me about every single bag (which I hear all the time, nothing new), starts horning into my work area to do it for me (which is jarring and maddening), and then pushes me out of the way to do it himself.
Honestly.
I don't mind people Asking Nicely if they can bag for themself. I have a regular, an old gent who used to be a front end manager for Bernard's (not its real name), a rival chain of stores, who always tells me "You let yerself take a lil' rest now, you been workin' hard." and bags for himself. But pushing me?! Did this guy fail Not Pushing People in kindergarten or do they not teach that any more?!
I ended up having the worst meltdown I've had in months. I nearly quit on the spot (next time I just might). At least my coworkers and my boss were very supportive, and my boss gave me the option of taking the rest of the day off to settle my nerves.
Pushing a girl half ones size. Honestly.
I'm still in a vile mood. Whatever happened to manners?! Does this guy have some kind of body image issues, and so he's taking it out on a girl half his size?!
This is the second time I've had some jerk of a guy push me, and it's two times too many. Granted, the last incident happened three years ago, but still. It shouldn't happen.
It's not often that I ask you folks on my friends list to do me a big favor, but this is one of them. And I would really love it if you passed it on to everyone you knew. Be kind to the next retail worker/food service worker who waits on you. Smile at them. Be polite to them. And if the customer in front of you is getting mouthy or handsy with them, either find a manager and get them to dispell the situation. Or if you've got the stuff for it, make like the African-American female drill sergeant who ripped a new one on a guy ahead of her in line in a coffee shop when said guy was being a dick to a counter clerk on her second day at work.
