Kayaks in TJ Max

Picked up my paycheck today, and since the seams on my black greatcoat are now hanging by threads, I decided it was high time I replaced it, especially with the deep cold snap we've been having. Almost went up to the Marshall's on the Lowell-Wamesit line, but between timing and waiting in the cold, I decided to take the bus going the other way and go to what I thought was a Marshall's in Wilmington, next to the Market Basket up there. I got there and found it was, in fact, a T.J. Max, though the two stores are rather similar (though T.J.'s is a bit more trendy, in my experience). I walked over to the ladies' department, approached a rack of coats on clearance, and behold, the very coat I had in mind hung there, right in front of me, at $USD 60. Tiny bit more than I wanted to pay, though it was still in the ballpark, though originally it caught $USD 250, so I got it practically for a song. Went to pay out, and got stuck in a line than snaked through some shelves, some of which had a tantalizing selection of journals. Including, but not limited to a five year "Gratitude Journal", in which, on each day, one jots something you're grateful for, and there's space enough for five years of entries; I've wanted something like this, so with my good fortune in finding a coat, I decided to get it.

Also, while waiting, I spotted, in a far corner of the shop, several kayaks hanging on the wall; I couldn't help chuckling at the sight. You think of T.J. Max having clothes (and journals) and nice stuff to deck out your house, so the kayaks just looked completely off the walls and hilariously out of place.

Came out and the wind had picked up like mad: sort of got blown across the street while scurrying across to get my lunch at the Starbucks across the way; my dad had given me a gift card for Christmas (plus I had one left over from last year), and since I'd fairly cleaned out my wallet, I decided it would sure come in handy. Got myself a chai and downloaded an audiobook I'd recently gotten (this Starbuck's has the best, speediest wifi in my area, and I should go there more often just for that!): Audible delivered another credit and so I had used it to get a collection of Robert E. Howard's horror stories (some of them using the old Yog-Sothothery of Howard's good friend H.P.L.).

Also finished reading Veronica Roth's "Insurgent", second in the Divergent series, and I liked it better than the first: some very interesting plot twists and character development, and some shocking revelations as to the nature and source of the faction system.

books, shopping, fandom: divergent (books and movie)
