Autumn at last

Sep 23, 2014 02:15

I found one of my pairs of work shoes had a chunk out of the lower sole, so decided I needed to get a new pair. Seems like someone's pointing me in the right direction: this week's Target ad featured a Buy one Get Half Off sale on women's shoes, and the ad pictured a pair just like the pair I'd intended to replace. So, got myself two pairs, one as a back up when the first pair wears out.

Lovely weather today, much more seasonable than yesterday, cool air and a cool breeze. The sun seems to have lost a lot of its energy as well. Autumn started tonight at 10.30 pm, and at long last. So looking forward to autumn fun: the leaves changing colors, visiting Salem, the Topsfield Fair, Halloween, our jack o'lantern jamboree (for which my dad picked up some new jack o'lanterns at a yard sale on Saturday), reading ghost stories and watching spooky things.

Been finishing what I can of Gardner Dozois and G.R.R. Martin's "Rogues" anthology; I've mostly been focusing on authors I'm familiar with at least this time around; sadly, the book has to go back tomorrow and there's a request for it. Still! I've enjoyed the selections: am currently reading Pat Rothfuss's 'Kingkiller Chronicles' side-story, featuring Bast having a busy day. Also read Neil Gaiman's offering, featuring another adventure with the Marquis de Carabas (and how he came to get that name...), and a Song of Ice and Fire pre-series story featuring one of the many troublesome branches on the Targaryen tree.

Update on the profile cribbing: the person who'd lifted it messaged me back with an apology and a promise to edit it. Peace in the valley and pretty much the reaction I'd hoped for.

Work tomorrow, then a library trip... also a presentation by one of my favorite weird/spooky stuff speakers, namely, Jeff Belanger, with a talk on time travel. I may be wearing the Jack Harkness coat, if the weather cooperates.
