Policy of deterrence

One thing for the record of those likes which think of encouraging policemen and soldiers to walk around some more in their service uniforms in their free time: Uniforms won’t make it any safer. They’re just pieces of clothes. It’s deeds that count.
Of course there will be some people who, on average, will shrink back from doing anything improperly - but, don’t get that fooled to think that the heavy criminals will get scared enough of punishment to abstain from their usual business only because they deem a person dressed in a martial uniform near them.
More likely it’ll be those people which harbor an established respect towards uniform carriers, despite doing something improper, who cease to do these things in proximity to their eyes.
What have you won then? Nothing.
It’s just a cosmetic issue to pretend an image of safety which doesn’t exist still.
(Technically, even everyone could slip into a martial uniform-like dress giving people that psychological impression.)
