You know why people accept precarious and even slave-like working conditions/conditions for existing without fighting back or trying to change them?
It's because they're so used to it, they don't even habor the glimpse of an idea that it could be any different than how they experience it in the present.
They've accepted the idea "That's what work for money is like, isn't it?".
Just like a victim of repeated violence, which accepts its fate at some point and comes to believe "This is what life seems to be like... Why do I resist?".
