Why are you so pessimistic? There are the stable countries around the world with totally different mechanisms of state working... Japan, China, India... Totally different mechanics of functioning but they are stable and life of folks is not a havoc...?
Could you tell me when it was different? People were always struggling here and the far behind the worse it was - no pension, no medication, no education, no nothing but only the good will of your parents, family, state if these would like to act good for everybody's prosperity

In the developed world, they once took the path to do it differently - just because the social misery was pressing the reigning class to do that. Survive or be downed one day - that was the situation they found before them
