I re-watched The Matrix Reloaded, and therefore Revolutions last night.   I still don't understand why people who enjoyed The Matrix would not like their sequels.

If anyone actually reads this I think it will help explain some things you may have missed. **Warning** major spoilers.

Reloaded takes everything you thought you knew about The Matrix and turns it upside down.  It's such a brilliantly executed "fuck you" to everyone who expected something else.

I mean, you have The One who is the savior of Zion, who turns out to be just a part of the entire system; a part of the original plan to keep humanity enslaved to the machines. Brilliant!  The team (Neo, Morpheus, and Trinity) are all following a set path, and don't even realize it. They think they're doing something revolutionary. Things get interesting when they meet the Frenchman who starts to hint at a bigger picture going on. "This is only a game." he says to Persephone. You don't really learn this fact until we meet the Architect, who while has some difficult to swallow speech habits, ultimately exposes the scam. The only thing new that did not happen in previous Matrix incarnations was that Smith did not replicate and become self aware. That is also in part due to Neo. This all leads to Neo being the actual One. Not just a predecessor who followed the same path over and over.

Revolutions is the true "new" happening, because this "The One" reveals himself to be super natural in nature and also ends up fighting for both the humans AND the machines.  He breaks the cycle. It is part of the reason his name is Neo, it is new. Not like previous "The Ones".
Neo's The One causes everything to be different. The Oracle sacrifices herself to help him, where previous incarnations she would have just led him down the path like she is programmed to, he shows super natural powers in the real world such as being able to control machines and see the machine 'light' while he is blind. Ultimately he is "The One" of all the others because the actions taken and story line of Revolutions is basically like saying, the last five times the same thing happened. The One was found, fought for humanity, followed the Oracle to the source and ultimately chose to save and repopulate Zion. This time was different because Neo was in love with Trinity. The entire third movie is new to the cycle of The One.  It is a revolution to the pattern.

I admit I had to watch Reloaded a second time before I caught everything, everyt time I re-watch it though I pick up new bits.

I love this series. The end.
