A Thousand Stars: Episode I, Part 5
While the Jedi navigate the world of the Gungans, we return to the city of Theed. Here we have another lovely shot of the city, a swooping view of the main thoroughfare in front of the palace. An idyllic scene with stately architecture, blue skies, a flock of birds....uh-oh.
Those aren't birds. Those are battleships.
It's subtle enough that you might miss it at first glance. This is a city besieged by invaders. Those distant ships don't look that imposing from afar, a subtle threat until suddenly they're filling the streets with troops. Perhaps an apt metaphor for a Republic that doesn't recognize the danger and corruption threatening it until it's too late? In any case, it's an image that rewards close attention, with so many details that you'd never catch them all in the first quick view. The artistry impresses me again and again.
