Define Retreat?

So I did an “add me” post over on one of the add me communities. I tend to do these about once a year … ha! I love you guys but I need more reading material *wink* Hopefully I’ll get a couple of bites.

About a week ago, HR sent out a reminder that our retreat was on the 31st and that it was required for all faculty/staff to attend. This is nothing new. What was new was that they were holding our retreat on campus.

Um … what? How is that a retreat? That defies the definition of RETREATING! So, of course a bunch of us were muttering around the office about the crap-ness of it all. Especially since the place we usually retreat at is very nice and outdoorsy, so we actually do look forward to a day away from the office, even if it is to discuss work ‘stuff’.

Well yesterday, Yvette was asking what we were going to be discussing at the retreat (they try to do one fun activity in the morning, and then work ‘stuff’ after). D responded that one of the things we’d be talking about is our emergency evacuation procedures since it’s been about five years and we have a lot of new folks around here. It finally clicked in our minds why we’re holding the retreat here instead of off campus, seeing as it might be difficult to go through emergency evacuations offsite (:

So, all is forgiven. Now, if they decide to do it at work again next year, I think rage will definitely ensue from a number of us… ha!

Speaking of work, things have been really picking up. In my mind, summer is already over for me. Next week classes start so students are coming by to register (late *grumble*), pick up supplies, ask a billion and one questions - there’s that ‘excitement’ in the air that comes with every new school year (before it crashes and burns two weeks in :D) … and it feels so lively around here.  I’m enjoying it of course because I’m not bored enough to want to bang my head against my desk … repeatedly. So, that’s a good thing.

In other news, I got a bit of writing done last night, finally. It was about six days since I last wrote. I didn’t get too much written (two and a half word pages), but it felt good to write. I think it helped that I cut my SIMS3 playing time down. I took those screen shots, then stopped playing to edit them and instead of going back in I actually decided to stop procrastinating and write (:  Maybe I’ll try to do that each night … ha-ha!

Anyone out there with an iPad? I primarily use mine for the calendar, to read my eBooks and one or two games. I do still use it a lot with those three things, but I’d like to get even more use out of it. Anyone out there have any good apps they would recommend? Thanks in advance!

Anywho. I am going to go put in some registrations, play with my stress ball, and see about lunch. (: It’s a tough life I lead, I know… *hangs head*
