Writing, Writing, Writing

Distracting myself from my dilemma. Thank you to those who've already responded and I'll respond individually shortly.

So yeah, distracting ... been writing. I am now almost done with Chapter Twelve of my book (no edits except minor things I catch when I go back to reread something) - that's 19,327 words (which isn't TOO much). I'm not even halfway yet either ... still building a lot of the world/characters.

BUT, the real purpose for this entry is to ask my writer friends out there a couple of questions.

1. Do you keep your chapters all in one document? This is what I do right now, but I wonder if it would be easier to save it by chapter for later editing and then put it all together. Thoughts?

2. If you do split it up by chapter to save, do you find this much easier to work with?

3. How far into your book are you before you figure out a title? Does it vary from book to book? With my last book (which I ever edited, but I can say I did finish it! I had the title within the first five or so chapters ... this one, nothing yet).

4. So far I really love all my characters. I have three main ones, two who are around often but not in every chapter, and then like 3 here and there characters for 'filler' ...but I am wondering if that is too small of a cast? I just added in a new one in chapter twelve, and I think I am going to like her and I can see her coming back more often ...but I also know TOO many characters can be a bit annoying ... What are you thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
