Slinking through the holiday weekend

It's going to be a slow, rather (as far as these things go) uneventful holiday weekend for me, it seems.

Yesterday was spent working most of the day. My shift was 12-8, and although I held my breath for it, I didn't get cut early. I was up at register for most of the day, worked on putting out some books for customer service, and took a preliminary Nook training test. Fun was had by all. At least before work I was able to hit up Joann Fabric's Memorial Day Weekend Sale. Every time Joann's has a sale, you know it's going to be good--and I made out like a bandit. Here's what I got:

7-8 sheets of craft foam
3 yards of cotton cord
2 yards of cotton strap
3 yards of bottom weighting
3 yards of duck cloth
2 purse hooks
an eyelet puncher
eyelets
3 dinosaur keychains (this was for the shits and giggles)

All of this for only $53 after tax. I saved about $40 with my coupons and the savings in store. I think Wakka is well on his way. After work, I went to TGIFriday's and ate (with the lovely Miss Brittany as my waitress), and then tooled around for essentially the whole rest of the night. I was able to cut out all the pieces for Wakka's sandals (yes, I'm making his sandals from scratch), and glued half the bumps onto my Blitzball.

I left early this morning to come down to RI to visit with my family for my only day off. I was REALLY surprised, because there was almost no traffic--just the occasional driving moron. Myself, Trevor, and our neighbor Francesco arrived around 11, and went to the beach ASAP. This was a mistake, let me tell you. It was on the colder side today, windy, and the water was cold as fuck all. I basically just slept. We got lunch, I dropped the boys back off at the beach, and spent my time napping in the house and reading Batman: Battle for the Cowl. The comic was, surprisingly, really good. I'm still a little shaky with American comic plots (and especially DC ones), but it was well done. I then went to Marshall's with my friend Kate and ended up doing some shopping. She was looking for dresses (a hilarious notion because she NEVER wears dresses) since she's going to South Beach for school in the fall and wants to keep up with the fashion there. I ended up walking away with a blue and white striped vest, an orange sweater that will either be donated to my friend Christi-Lynn's Rikku costume or used for my own reasons, new headphones, and an arm strap for my iPod while working out. Tonight for dinner, we were visited by some family friends--our Irish friends, the Youngs, and Mr. Young's sister, brother-in-law, and two nephews. It was a good time, and it's always INFINITELY amusing to hear little children with British accents. The rest of the night has just been spent tooling around.

Tomorrow I plan to head out (relatively) early with Trev and Franco and go back to Walpole. I have to hit up Joann's again to get snaps, a snap press, some pleather, plaster of Paris, two types of blue fabric, and more styrofoam balls for Wakka. I figure I might as well since there's a huge sale going on, and I want to have everything I need for Wakka so I can just cram on through and have it all set for Anime Boston. I also work tomorrow from 3-8:30 (Sunday closing time) in our kids' department. I'm bracing myself for that. I love kids, but parents at B&N have a tendency to use the kids' department as their own personal playroom/babysitting service. They read our books to their kids, let their kids play with our merchandise, and leave the tots while they go to get a latte. Gah, people...

And in technology news--I started using Rosetta Stone German. That's right folks, I got levels 1-5 so I could work on learning German this summer. I'm currently working to pay all of it off on my credit card. My iPod also finally decided to just about kick the bucket. Back in January I dropped it in the snow and it really hasn't been the same ever since. The battery life is just trashed (it can't hold charge well, and takes forever to charge back) and always thinks it's on the charger when it isn't. For the time being I'm going to borrow my dad's (he doesn't use it because he has the iPhone now...) and save up to get one of my own. Thankfully, I was introduced to a program called Senuti which allows me to transfer files from my iPod to my computer. That way, I don't lose files that were on my iPod which I got from my computers pre-crashes. I recommend it for anyone looking to back-up their iPod. There's a 30 day free trial available which allows you to salvage up to 1,000 songs. I only have 2,500ish songs on my iPod to begin with, most of which were in my iTunes anyway, so these conditions didn't hinder me in the least.

Also--absolutely no work on the GREs. I'm so useful.

Well, off to bed with me.

P.S. Like my icon, yo? GAH I LOVE JASON TODD. Nice Cain complex I have, huh?
