I... truly love theater people. I can bitch up a storm about all I've had to go through with BUSS, but god. At the end of the day, I love actors.
We have a local theater group in Walpole called the Footlighters which my family has been very involved with for years. We went to see the plays all the time, became donating patrons, and now my mother is their costumer and treasurer. I've even been in a little show they did once. Literally, I have known some of the key players of the Footlighters since I was a child.
This weekend the Footlighters closed their musical The King of Hearts, which had in it many of the usual suspects plus a friend of mine and a friend of Trevor's. Since my mom was involved in the production, she offered up our house to host the cast party. We prepared for this party literally all day, and centered everything around it. At about 5:30 we had about 30 people descend on our house including the cast, crew, and e-board members--plus family members/significant others of the cast and crew.
My friends Ashley (who was in the show) and her sister Rachel came, so it was wicked nice to see them after so long. They're really really nice people, and we've planned a mini-golf outing. I also finally got to meet Ben, a guy my mom had been telling me about and the lead of the show. He had Facebooked me asking for my advice for a cosplay costume, which I'm definitely going to help him with, and we finally met in person. We really hit it off. We're both huge, raging, nerdy anime/game fans, and just babbled. He's very nice, and I look forward to helping him prepare for and hanging out with him at Anime Boston. All the others were just... hysterical. I've known some of them for so long that their company can't be anything but enjoyable.
Especially our stragglers for the night. The people who stayed an hour after the others were some of the people we're closest to, including all my family's closest (local at least) gay friends--AND ARE THEY A RIOT. My favorite is Stephen, who is probably one of the gayest men I've ever met and thinks dick/sex jokes are just as funny as I do. This man is already at the top of my list. So it was my family and I and our four friends just talking for an hour, and I can honestly say it was perfectly enjoyable and not awkward like you'd expect a "mom and dad" party to be. I think I also really got to know some of these people, some of their stories--and if nothing else, I love good stories.
Speaking of theater: I don't think I've mentioned but I stopped working with BUSS. I'm officially working as the Moderator for Calliope Project. It's about time I dropped BUSS like a drunk hooker. Kelly is president next year, and sees my withdrawal from the group as a personal affront, but I think she's gotten over it by now.
Tomorrow's back to working reality for me though. I work 2:30-10:30. Fun shit. Guh...
Oh!! And I finally did it--I got Rosetta Stone German. I'm going to learn German. After having been an exchange student. Failure. Better late than never I suppose...
