thinking about window treatments

(And how did I get to the point of using the phrase "window treatments" anyway?)

The sun is setting, or about to, as I write. It no longer being warm outside, I need to close my blinds to hold in whatever heat I can. I do not necessarily do so well trying to be productive in a dim environment, and I need to be productive the next few evenings, at least. Current window treatments in the living area consists of ancient blinds (vinyl?) and a couple of paper shades where the blinds got non-functional. The white shades are brighter than the blinds, but not ideal for the long term. (Might still replace some of the blinds while I'm dithering, see if it helps with mood.)

Some of the windows could handle full-length drapes. Many could handle drapes that stop just below the window sill, especially if I pull the couch a bit away from the wall, which would be tight for space, but not impossible.

Anybody found cheerful window treatments for living room/dining room/office space that they could recommend? Serious bonus points for easily cleaned since everything on this floor gets hay and dust on it sooner rather than later.
