Start of term

Summer seems to be over, except that apparently we're supposed to have good weather this week. WHERE WERE YOU IN AUGUST, SUN?

This means that my course kicks off again. This term I'm taking Writing for the Stage as my main course, and I have to take an additional 6-week short course. So I decided to take Memoir Writing, as I'd really like to do some prose writing (so far it's been script) and also I've got a half-baked notion to write some of my Mum's life story down while she can still tell me about it. Should be an interesting few weeks, anyhow. Except that Cross Country Trains (may they burn in hell) have cut the number of trains that stop here. Which means there's now no train home for me in the evening. So I'll be driving to Newcastle and back, which sucks.

Also new this week: decided to start getting up half an hour earlier. I've been finding that I'm really sluggish in the afternoons despite getting plenty of sleep at night. Yesterday I had to get up early as our new tumble dryer was arriving sometime between 7am and 2pm (it arrived at around 12.30, obv) and discovered I was actually pretty awake in the afternoon. Plus I now have extra time to myself in the morning when Mum goes back to bed. Time to myself knowing I won't be interrupted is at an absolute premium, as you can imagine. So this is all good.

The other decision I made this week is that I want to do the Great North Run in September next year. I've never, ever been any good at running as my stamina level is minimal at best, so this will be a huge challenge for me and I'm starting to build up to it now! It'll also give me something to aim for at the gym. I've been going for 6 months now and I'm definitely fitter than I was, but nowhere near where I'd have to be to run a half-marathon. I'll be running in aid of the PSP Association, which is the charity that does research into my Mum's condition and also provides support for sufferers and their families. So look out for pleas for money later next year...
