This night is filled with yawns and blah. Notre Dame is even playing like crap! But yeah, boring night. Sometimes I feel like some kind of weird loser just sitting around my apartment so much. But I suppose it happens when you don't know anyone.
So instead of being out at a party or gaming or something I will make a post about my most recent music purchases. Yeah, exciting I know ^__^; I'll list my purchases from the past couple days and comment briefly on each. If anyone would like they can do the same or also comment on my stuff. I don't know, I am trying to invent entertainment for myself heh.
Recent Purchases(last couple days)--
Crimson-by Alkaline Trio. I am actually really really liking this album. I have been wanting to check Alkaline Trio out for a few years and just haven't gotten around to it. So I saw the album at the used music store where I have store credit and thought why not? I am not sure how to describe it. Like maybe if the AFI album Sing the Sorrow was harder and more lyrically cool? I don't know, that doesn't really work either. It's just good, in my opinion at least. It's like if Bayside grew up a little more and wrote a lot better.
Goddamit-by Alkaline Trio. I liked Crimson so much that I went out and got this at the same place today. I am pretty sure this was their first album, and it was on Asian Man Records so I pretty much anticipated what it was going to sound like. Really Really different from Crimson, more standard good times non-vomit inducing pop punk as opposed to a really definitive sound like Crimson has. Fun, but all in all just decent in my opinion.
We're Not Happy till Your Not Happy-by Reel Big Fish. Alright, i'll start this off by saying I love me some Reel Big Fish. I really do, I have a ton of fun at their shows, and I love most of their albums. However this would not be one of them. Aaron is doing something weird with his normally cool voice and it doesn't work. The cover of Social Distortions Story of My Life is awful, the whole album just doesn't work very well. Congratulations Reel Big Fish, you can be happy because the album makes me unhappy. I really wanted "Cheer Up!" but they didn't have it.
The District Sleeps Alone Tonight-by The Postal Service. I used to have most of this album on my computer when Brandon and I lived at the Brig. It's good and I didn't want to pass up the opportunity to own it.
The Dresden Dolls-by Dresden Dolls. Again, I used to have this album and then my ex Gretchen kept it when we split. Very good album, very good band. Viglione does an amazing job with the drums. Amanda Palmers voice is awesome.
Lets Face It-by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. I like the Bosstones! This was in the 99 cent bin, why not?
P.U.S.A.-Presidents of the United States of America. Did you forget about these guys? They were awesome. Another 99 cent find.
That's it from the last couple days. They all came from the used store so I didn't have to use real money ^__^; I went in today looking for The Red Album by Weezer and Dethalbum by Dethklok but they had neither. There was much sadness. Soon as I get a little more cash I will just go to the kick ass record store and by those.
Other things I have been listning to. Lots and lots of M. Ward, Menomena, and Man Man. Also I have been playing Human, the new single by the Killers with a fair amount of regularity. I am not a huge fan of the Killers but for some reason that song gets stuck in my head. I am familiarizing myself with Does it Offend You Yeah? via their myspace tracks. Just to throw this out there: Hollywood Undead are a terrible terrible band. Do not be fooled by anyone who tells you otherwise.
::Matthew Mcconaughey voice:: Alright, alright, alright gonna continue this post soon as I play these bongos and hang out with Woody Harrelson. Aaaah sweet action, I love that imitation. So I am enjoying this a bit and it is better than watching Notre Dame lose terribly so...how about this? I am going to name 3 bands that I like that are either way out of my normal range of enjoyment or are just not good bands but I like them anyway heh. You should all do the same.
1: Saves the Day. Super poppy emo with highschool lyrics and angst. So why do I like them? I normally hate that stuff. However they at least have a reason. I think I like it because while the lyrics are stuff you would find coming out of high school kids, these guys WERE high school kids when they made their first few albums I like that authenticity. Like some of the angsty stuff this guy was singing about was probably actually happening to him at the time. The lyrics sound surprisingly personal for the semi-standard stuff they depict. Anyway, their later albums kind of blow but I would actually recommend Through Being Cool(first album) to anyone who can enjoy that sort of pop punk/pop emo thing a little bit. But all in all? I am probably the only one who can throw it in on a regular basis and I wouldn't subject anyone else to it.
2: Skid Row. That's right Eel, Skid Row. I don't own any of their albums or anything like that but if they come on I will leave the station alone ^__^; I have no explanation for this. There is no real excuse for it heh.
3: +44. I don't know. I don't even know why I like these guys but when the album finds it's way into my cd player it stays there for a day or so. This one makes less sense than Skid Row. Fronted by one of the former Blink 182(a band I despise)frontmen(Mark Hoppus) and also utilizing their drummer(Travis Barker) all signs point to me lighting the disc on fire. However....not so. I think maybe I like their sound a lot. Some of it is drum machine tracks and almost dancey to a degree but it is a somewhat unique sound in my opinion. I don't know. Like I said, these are bands I have no excuse for.
And there you have it. OH! One more thing! How about bands that you like a lot but never make it into your favorites list? For me it would be Jimmy Eat World. I have liked, literally, every album they have put out. I don't tend to skip any songs on any of those cds yet I never mention them in my favorites etc.
Alright, i'm done, I promise.
