Some Random Surprises

Today started out being a normal part of my day, an extension of my weekend, really. I just kept cleaning, and I finally finished.

Then... Jocelyne called me, and asked, did I want to come to Wal-Mart with her? I said that I did and I went. We pretty much just walked around and put things in the carriage, which is what pretty much everyone else at Wal-Mart does. And we caught up a little bit... well my talking to listening ratio was about 1:4, which is about average for me.

I had fun playing with her son while he was in the carriage, he's a really cute kid. And he loves cars. And Dori from Finding Nemo.

On the way back home we sang a song, but our throats were getting dry. Just kidding. That's from a Van Morrison song. But we did listen to this guy called MC Chris, which I guess is one of the dudes from Sea Lab. He's pretty funny, so Jocelyne's burning me a copy.

The whole reason that this was strange is that I hardly talk to Jocelyne anymore... and if you'd like details as to why, you can ask. If you already know about it, you'll know that her calling me out of the blue is a bit out of the ordiary.

But I made a New Year's resolution (one of eleven) to reconnect with old friends, and so I think this might be a good opportunity to do so.

Then I came home and my dad started talking to Liz and I. And he wants to... wait for it... get his GED!

He never finished high school because he wanted to go the navy. They wouldn't take him, and he lost a lot of time. Since he was a year older than most of the other kids already from starting school in Poland at 6 instead of 5, and since he had lost a year with the navy thing, he'd be a 20 year old senior, and he wasn't having it.

So now, he's 51, but he wants to get his GED, and I am so happy for him. He came to me and Liz and asked us if we would help get him ready for it, and we enthusiastically agreed, of course.

That, of the two surprises was the bigger one, and I think it's just awesome.
