This Week's Update...Just for the Record

May 29, 2004 04:43

It's been some time since I last updated. I really feel handicap when the computer breaks down. So, here's an entire week of happenings.

Monday 24 May 04
Ms Sok Meng told me that Ethan could read 2 Chinese words in class today ~ Baba(Father) & Mama(Mother). Surprise! Surprise! This is coming from a lil' boy who hasn't started talking in sentences. Actually, I was half surprised and half amused cos' I actually did a little bit of that Glen Doman thing with Ethan. Just a teeny weeny bit. When Ethan was about 19 months, I flashed some Chinese Glen Doman-like cards to him. I started off with members of the family like Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, etc. And then I got lazy and the rest is history...

Mum left the school even before Ethan started class today. Now, the lil' boy realised that his mum and granny could actually leave the school and not sit outside his class for 2 whole hours like he thought we were doing. Panic struck him and he hung on to me for his dear life! Sigh! Got to re-settle him in class again!

Ms Sok Meng told me that she is planning to graduate Royce from the Playgroup class and move him to the Workgroup class. What is going to happen to Ethan? She wonders. I wonder. Ethan is a tad too dependent on his gor gor. I know...but we really can't help it. So I asked Ms Sok Meng to start separating the 2 boys in class so that Ethan might get used to not having Royce around.

Wednesday 26 May 04
Ethan remembered Granny leaving the school yesterday and refused to stay in class. He ran out to the reception area every 5 minutes to make sure that I was still there. Eventually, when Ms Sok Meng came out to get him, he burst into tears, - not the wailing type but the really pitiful type. We tried to convince him again by switching on the CCTV for him to see, telling him mummy's gonna stay outside to watch the "Ethan" movie.

Went to teach tuition in the evening and came back to an extremely messy home. It always gets this messy on a Wednesday cos' hubby looks after Ethan all by himself. Well, evidently, he couldn't manage house and kid together all by himself.

Thursday 27 May 04
No class for Ethan today cos' it's Parent Meets Teacher Day. He pestered me the whole day for Power Rangers shows. I really don't understand why mum had to buy that 3 new Power Rangers VCDs when she knows that I don't like Ethan to watch it. And I don't have that power to hide those VCDs cos' they don't belong to me :(

Went to Garden of Rememberance to attend Hui Yi's funeral. I did not want to bring Ethan along but was left with no choice as there was no one to look after him. Hubby has got to work late. Well, the lil' one .... *shake head* ... thought that it was a family excursion since every single one of us went (including his Andy Ah Gu who is seldom around). It didn't help that the place looks great with beautiful fountains, ponds and furnishings. Ethan started making a whole lot of noise inside the Service Room so I had to whisk him out. Outside...he ran wild and I had to chase after him for fear that he would either fall into the pond/fountain or run into the roads.

Then, the unexpected happened. A church pastor/staff (I'm really not sure) decided to help me distract Ethan. He approached Ethan and asked to carry him. Surprisingly, or rather, shockingly (you all know about his fear of the strangers), he allowed to be carried off. And this man actually walked away with Ethan in his arms and carried him till his mummy is out of his sight (though mummy here still knows where he is). Then they came back and he told me that Ethan speaks a special language of his own. "Yes," I told him, "he is slow in his speech." This church pastor/staff then went on to pray for Ethan on the spot! Following that, he invited Ethan into the Church office to enjoy the cool aircon. In there, Ethan had great fun - drank from the water dispenser (his fav activity), drew and coloured with pens, markers as well as highlighters and then even cut paper with a pair of scissors. This mini session inside the office allowed me to rest for a while...no need to run after Ethan all over the place.

We left the place at about 9 plus and Ethan didn't sleep till we reached home.

Friday 28 May 04
Ethan clung on to me like a Koala Bear, still fearing that I would leave school the moment class starts. I tore him away from me and left him with Royce. Went out to the reception area to watch Ethan on the CCTV. Inside the class, Ethan ran to get a hug from Ms Sok Meng every 5 minutes. Still feeling insecure, I guess.

Today is the last day of school and when Monday comes, Ethan will continue school under the School Holiday Programme.
