Another possibility that springs to my mind is that it might be that a very small number of very promiscuous women weren't found by the survey (or, perhaps less probably, a small number of strictly monogamous or virgin males - I say less probably because you can only drag a number down so much, but you can drag a number up much further).
What would be interesting would be to see the distribution of the responses. Then we might be able to draw some conclusions.
I seem to remember hearing that boys are wicked horny in the 14-20 range (I can testify in favor of this), but that for women, it often picks up somewhere around 30-35.

If true, I must not be a woman, and let me check. *checks in pants* Yep, female.
I was out of my freakin' mind between 14 to 18 and it has gradually diminished (thank god) over time. But from about 14 until I finally got a regular sex partner, I spent much of my waking life in a sexual haze. If I had been a boy, I would have had to walk around all day with my notebook held in front of me.
I just don't think that I am all that weird. I think that girls don't want to own up to being sexual, because it has connotations of sluttiness. That doesn't mean they aren't completely pestered by thinking about sex.

You're still a woman to me.
It's just that I've heard a couple of firsthand testimonies from LJers I know to the biological clock. "Gotta have a baby" and whatnot. Though I don't know of any cases in which that lead to having lots of partners for the first time in someone's life.
Anyway, it's not like the thought of young women having sexual agency scares me. Wait, no, it does. Whatever. What were we talking about?
I don't know. I have trouble imagining much of the contribution coming from dudes having sex with lots of older women.

Thanks.
What does "got to have a baby" have to do with # of sex partners? Or were we tying this to sex drive?

*sigh* Very well. I will throw myself on this statistical grenade and agree to have sex with lots of young men, then fail to fill out a sexual self-survey form.
