Reconsidering
In moment of frustration/disengagement/(whatever the word is for wishing that windy, self-important people would just shut the fuck up) I have said, and meant, "We should just walk away, and let them kill each other until they can't stand to kill each other any more."
I meant this, inasmuch as you can mean something that you know is impossible. I accepted that innocents would be lost on both sides; I kind of thought that anyone willing to sacrifice their own innocents deserved annihilation.
Somehow, I never considered that those completely on the outside could be shot down as collateral damage. I am ashamed that I never thought of that, and that my astounded silence amounts to saying the same thing.
