I've never watched Grey's Anatomy, but religious affiliation in hospitals is a very current topic. Widespread hospital company mergers have left some parts of the country (Seattle, Tacoma) with all or most of their hospitals now part of chains with Catholic mission statements and charters. This means concern for young women who are expecting babies, that life-threatening procedures will be done to them because the staff and policies value babies over mothers, and it means concern for people of all ages, because there tends to be fine print and spoken messages when people sign in for surgery, that your do-not-resusitate directives will not be honored.
