1. What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before?
Held a grownup job.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I really don't know why I don't just delete this question.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No. More than a few new colleagues, though, which was disturbing.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.

5. What countries did you visit?
The 'burbs is a total new planet, but I suspect that's not what you're looking for.

6. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?
A sense of pleasure in my job.

7. What date from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
July 17th. I left Iowa City, and the email landed in my inbox.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
You know, I actually had to think about this...and then I remembered that I sorta became Dr. Nerd. My proudest achievement is Multivariable Calc, though.

9. What was your biggest failure?
My freshman classes, actually.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Well, there was the wicked cold during the Cereal Cruncher interview. But otherwise I was good.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
It's a tossup between the eight-dollar vacuum cleaner and the three-dollar REI coat.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Again, lots of friends became Dr. Friend (we won’t discuss what I did at the celebrations).

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Well, it was usually a freshman.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Who has time to spend money?

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
The job? The PhD?

16. What song will always remind you of 2006?
Snow Patrol's Chasing Cars.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? v. not happy these days.
ii. thinner or fatter? Thinner. Noticeably so, I hear.
iii. richer or poorer? richer. This having a real job thing is cool.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

GRADING PAPERS!!!

22. Did you fall in love in 2006?
Oy to the vey.

23. How many one-night stands?
Well, it wasn't for a lack of trying, let me tell you.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Jeez, people, take the damn quiz.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I suppose not. But I do have some unresolved issues.

26. What was the best book you read?
This took me forever. Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life. It's not exactly good, but it's a companionable read.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Snow Patrol. I've since bought their catalog.

28. What did you want and get?
Job offers.

29. What did you want and not get?
A callback from the Cheeseheads, and an offer from the Crabcakes.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
"For Your Consderation." I love Christopher Guest. Shut up, X, I was awake for most of it.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Don't celebrate it, and 28

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
A TA. Which I'm really, really embarrassed to admit.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?
Jackets rock and gauchos suck.

34. What kept you sane?
Sanity is one of many things that eluded me this fall.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Matt Murton. Love the redhead.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
The all-Republican ballot I was handed in November. Welcome to 'Burb.

37. Who did you miss?
Everything in the People's Republic.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Umm...Division Chair. Actually. Because other people fall in the "re-met" category.

Be the bitch. And always make the test too easy.
