EDIT: As of today's post, I am getting home! Thank you all, bless you all, for your generosity to help me in this situation. Words do not suffice how grateful I am to you all. I will never forget your kindnesses. *HUGS

I feel I should comment, though I don't really know what to say. Just, I am so sorry that your situation is terrible, and you are facing it with a lot more strength than I ever could. I hope you get home and get the care you need.
*hugs* My professor (from French-speaking Switzerland) commented on my new braces and the discussion from there went to my general all-around situation. One of my colleagues commented that he would be a lot more depressed about it were it him, and I said, well, since I can't fix it, and drinking doesn't help, you just live with it. I have a strange sense of humour. Which is not to say that I don't spend a fair amount of time crying and swearing and contemplating moving to another galaxy. ;)

This attitude seems at once mature and profound and also so, so normal somehow. Humans beings generally seem capable both of complaining about the most silly of things, and yet also can display such resilience, strength and grace when coping with seriously difficult situations like this. I really do admire you.
My solicitor friend gave me a book for Christmas (Bujold fantasy) and picked a quote out of it for me to remember and wrote it in the front. The quote was "Prayer is putting one foot in front of the other." and that's essentially what it all boils down to. We pick ourselves up and keep going, because there is no other option. Sure, I could give up, but truly giving up requires killing myself, which requires work, so for right now, it's easier to keep going. At least, until tea-time.
Have you let the German Embassy or Consulate know of your predicament ?
I believe the British Consulate will buy a ticket home for Brits who have been stranded even when stuck through their own stupidity, so I imagine that yours would buy a ticket home for you when staying abroad would be dangerous to your health and the problem is not your fault. Our government would probably buy the ticket rather than trust us with the cash and might take away our passport as we returned to the UK, until they were repaid. They don't like doing this, so if you can show that you are doing what you can to get home without their assistance (eg asking your friends here for help) and can offer to pay part of the fare now they may be more friendly about it.
Always nice to know how people came by my place. ;)
Yes, the German consulates do the same, but unfortunately, seeing as how I have a Green Card (legal US Resident) and it's the medical stuff that throws a wrench into the loop, I fear that the paperwork would get far more complicated were I to need my government's help. Also, they wish to be paid back, so it doesn't really improve the situation, as I could similarly put things on a credit card and pay disgusting amounts of interest compounded monthly.
However, people are being amazingly generous, and it looks like I shall get home on the kindness of strangers and the goodness of God. Thank you for thinking of alternate emergency options!
