Two questions I’ve been wondering about. First, does every single film being shown this year have a “guest” in attendance? It sure seems that way; if not the director then either the producer or a cast member, often all three. The last time I attended the Toronto film festival (about a decade ago), a minority of films had a director present. My question is, does the Festival pick up all the travel expenses for these guests? If so it must be a few million dollars altogether, probably the largest item of the Festival’s budget. Or have the guests paid their own way to Toronto in hopes of selling the film to international distributors?
Second, I’m curious about the Varsity showing the same film in two different auditoriums at the same time. For example, today I saw “Frankie” in theatre 4 while it was also being screened in theatre 5. So does the Festival have two prints of that film? Or was it a single print travelling to a second projector after it left the first? And if the latter, which theatre saw it first and what was the delay?
