Felicity's Tea attickah March 17 2008, 07:26:11 UTC
My understanding is that there were actually several people who won that contest, because there were several "tea parties" over the course of a couple of weeks. (As you may have guessed, I was allowed to attend Felicity's tea party.) I believe a pair of sisters who were seated at my table at that party had won for our group--but I may well be mistaken.

For the party itself, there was a gift box given out containing a copy of Meet Felicity, a small sachet of potpourri in it, and a hat like she wears on the cover of the book (the name of which escapes me presently). There were probably other things in that box but I don't remember them now; there were crumbly cookies (shortbread? scones? something I made a mess of while eating) at the party and the tea had a vaguely raspberry-ish flavor to it, which most of the girls still thought needed sugar. And the creator of the American Girls brand spoke about her hopes in creating the series--to bring history to life and to spark the imaginations of young girls by showing them girls from 200/50/100 years ago had many similar concerns as girls do today.

I had one doll which was a joint gift to me one Christmas from my parents and both sets of grandparents (Kirsten) and that trip to Williamsburg was just my mother and I, the summer that my favorite grandmother was either really sick or just after she had passed away, so it was "to cheer me up".

As much fun as I had seeing Williamsburg (I love history) and going to the tea party, I would much rather have traded the opportunity to do that for another year with my grandmother.
