I'm back in Niskayuna, NY, after my brother and his wife were successfully hitched on August 13! I got there on Monday, and while there was plenty of behind-the-scenes drama (enough to make an entertaining movie, I think), the wedding went surprisingly well. My mother likes to nitpick at the details and point out all the small mistakes that were made during the service, but overall the service was wonderful and the reception was fun. Caitlin looked amazing, and the kransekake didn't break! For clarification, Kristoffer and Caitlin didn't have a normal wedding cake, they instead had a traditional Norwegian wedding cake, kransekake (KRAHN ze kaka), which literally translates to "wreath cake." The problem with having a wreath cake is that the individual wreaths could have broken on their cross-country trip in our carry-on luggage! But they didn't, so that's good, since it's a PAIN to make, lots and lots of careful rolling, so the dough doesn't break apart.
The week went by so fast and I was so busy helping out that the only times I could really relax and enjoy myself were at the Rehearsal Dinner (which I always thinks looks like it is spelled incorrectly) and at the actual Wedding and Reception. The DJ at the Reception was funny and played great dancing music, and Caitlin and Kristoffer really showed off their dancing skills from taking Social Dance. It's fun hanging out with my family, but it was too bad that the cousins on my mother's side couldn't stay at the Reception long (there's a story behind it...) since I don't think I know them as well as I do the cousins on my dad's side. It got somewhat tiring trying to include everyone and trying to be outgoing and personable to everyone at the wedding, but I think I did a pretty good job.
ANYWAY
That's enough about the wedding. The Warrior meeting on Tuesday, while providing me an opportunity to see people, wasn't very interesting or germane to my line of work, but I went anyway because that's what I thought I should do. Catchphrase is a fun game, I've decided, because the fast pace of it makes people say crazy things.
Tonight was West Wingathon, Part VII, and it was amazing. Add to the sheer genius of watching 8 West Wing episodes a handful of zany teenagers, a dash of forgetfulnes, a teaspoon of insanity, and a large helping of laughter, and that's pretty much what it turned out to be.
It's sad that so many ex-seniors are leaving for college, and that we, the class of 2006, have taken their place. I still don't feel ready to be a senior. I'm ready to leave the high school behind, I think, but I'm not yet ready to be a senior, mostly because I don't feel like a senior. Maybe that's part of the mystique of senior year, that eventually, somehow or another, everyone realizes that this chapter in their life is about to end, and a new one about to begin, so they make their last memories last. I don't know, but I do know that my senior year of high school better live up to my expectations, since senior year is supposed to be amazing.
I think we can do it. Do you?
