U Substitution, Anyone?

Integrate: 1/(x^7 + x) using u substitution.

So, the denominator could be restated as x(x^3)^2 + x  with u=x^3...except that du would have to equal 3x^2 and I'm not sure how that would work. Am I on the right track?
