For no apparent reason, I woke up today thinking about this villanelle, that I wrote in '06:

Let all the brown-haired people die but one
Do not ignore the majesty of mind
Extinguish city lights that block the sun

You cannot change the meaning of a ton
by balancing the scale with copper coins
Let all the brown-haired people die but one

Nor should eclipses lose the power to stun
when petty mortals' jaded eyes are turned
Extinguish city lights that block the sun

When every girl creeps forward like a nun
to bow in reverence, then the world is right
Let all the brown-haired people die but one

To interfere with an immortal's fun
diminishes our own until we see:
Extinguish city lights that block the sun

Perfection is the point where God is done
and satisfied that somehow He has won
Extinguish city lights that block the sun
Let all the brown-haired people die but one

~If you can't join 'em, beat 'em.
