Today is a day of big news. Big disturbing news, but i digress, lets start small.
Upon entering the habitat this morning i was told the Podfish were were in need of heat and oxygen. The only importance to this is that the Gillmen have now grown back legs so large that they rarely need to use their fins.
Also it seems I have miscategorized them, as earlier I have said the gold one was the one with a name, and the plain fish coloured one was the one that would eventually die off. That was only half correct.
It appears as though the gold "Podfish" is the female, and the grey was simply the male. They both had names.
Also, they mated. This not in the fashion of any regular fish (who would expect that?) No, this was more in the like of a praying mantis, as after it was all done with, the male simply keeled over and died as I can imagine many of predecessors before him had.
The worst part was in a male voice I heard him quip "It's adults only time now". Also, they had mated through the tubes on their head, the female sucking the life from the male and looking like she was in a state of euphoria afterwards. They have previously sucked the life out other "baby gillmen" and moved their bowels from the same tube.

Here is an artists rendition of what it looked like
