Title: Misunderstandings

Author: Masuhisa

Pairing: Aimiya

Summary: After spending so much time with each other, romance sparked between Nino and Aiba, but what happens when Nino eavesdrop on Aiba’s conversation?

Disclaimer: Don’t own.

Nino strode up to the door. He meant to fling it open, but something held him back. In the end, he decided to back off. Taking seven steps backwards, Nino froze in his tracks, only to take five steps forwards. Hesitating if he should go forward or back, Nino subconsciously retreated a few steps, before dashing forward.

There was no end to it, and Nino knew it. He had to do something before everything spirals out of control. He had to settle it today, or he’ll never find the courage to do so ever again.

Cautiously, he went up to the door and grabbed the door knob. Different outcomes started playing in his head, making Nino squirm in anticipation. Taking several deep breathes, Nino pressed his ear to the door, hoping that there was only Aiba in the room.

“Sho-chan~” he heard the group’s tallest member whine, “I’m so tired…it’s all Kazu’s fault!”

Nino froze. How was it his fault Aiba was tired?

“I spent the whole night cleaning up after him, my whole apartment was a mess!” Aiba complained.

Ok, maybe Nino did mess up Aiba’s house when he went over to play games. Ok, he did forget to keep the consoles. Ok, he did leave a few empty drink cans on the table, but that was it! He was only in the living room, so he couldn’t have messed up Aiba’s whole apartment.

“And not to mention hungry too! I don’t know how he did it, but Kazu managed to make all my food disappear!”

Him? Make Aiba’s food disappear? It was only a hamburger! One hamburger! That Aiba must be exaggerating!

“You know, Sho-chan, I’m starting to regret allowing Kazu into my house, I didn’t realize it would be this terrible!” grumbled Aiba.

Nino’s heart shattered all over the place. Was that what Aiba really thought about him? He bit his lips, willing himself to not crumble to pieces. On the bright side, he managed to know what Aiba really thought of him before he actually confessed. If he hadn’t, it would probably have been more embarrassing and heart breaking for him, wouldn’t it.

With a frown on his face, Nino walked off.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Aiba returned to his apartment that day, drained after a long day of filming. He was expecting to have to work some more by cleaning up his apartment before cooking a nice meal with whatever ingredients he had left.

But when he entered his apartment, he got the shock of his life - everything was in place and spotless, his fridge was stocked, and there was even a hot plate of noodles waiting for him.

Feeling as if he had stepped into another world, Aiba wander around his house with half-jellified legs. His bathtub had been scrubbed and fresh towels replaced his old smelly ones. In his room, his bed was made and even his clothes had been washed, ironed and folded for him.

Something strange is definitely going on.

Even though Aiba is known to be rather childish, he knew that elves don’t really exist, so it couldn’t be the elves who tidied his room for him. He thought about the other members - Ohno was out fishing, Sho had news zero, Jun was out of the area for a photo shoot, so that leaves Nino. It was Nino’s day off too, but what are the chances of the younger man cleaning his whole house for him? Close to zero.

Silently thanking whoever helped him, Aiba ate the noodles and went to bed.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

“Sho-chan! You wouldn’t believe what happened yesterday!” cried Aiba, bouncing into their green room.

“Ssh, Nino’s asleep,” hushed the newscaster.

Aiba turned and saw Nino sleeping on the couch, looking extremely worn out. The gamer must have spent his entire day off gaming, why else would he look so tired the next day?

Jun and Ohno entered the room after Aiba, exchanging greetings with the two members who were awake.

“Why is Nino sleeping? Didn’t he have the whole day off yesterday?” asked Jun, raising his eyebrows at the sleeping figure.

“He must have been gaming,” replied Aiba intelligently.

Little did the other members know, Nino was actually wide awake and listening intently to the conversation. Aiba announcing that he had been gaming all day long made Nino feel very hurt. Was that all Aiba saw in him? A gameaholic?

It took all of Nino’s willpower to not pout.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

“Hey! Nino!” came Aiba’s loud voice, footsteps thundering across the corridor.

“Aiba?”

“I heard you’re free today, wanna come over to my place?” asked the honey-haired man eagerly.

If Nino hadn’t heard what Aiba had to say before, he would have agreed a split-second after Aiba asked him. He bit his tongue before it could say ‘yes’.

“I’m sorry, Aiba, I have plans,” Nino answered before walking off.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

“Nino~” Aiba sing-songed, “it’s been a long time since we’ve hanged out, wanna go eat Yakiniku, my treat!”

How Nino managed to refuse, even he himself wasn’t clear.

“I have something on, maybe next time,”

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

“Sho-chan, did you notice something different about Nino,” asked Aiba, hoping his smart friend could give him some clues as to what is going on inside Nino’s head.

“No, why?”

“He keeps avoiding me!”

“Did you do something that upset him?”

“No,”

“You probably did, Nino won’t do such things without reasons. Think harder,”

Think harder, Aiba did, and after losing several thousand brain cells, Aiba found the answer. Running out of the green room, Arashi’s tallest member headed straight for the studio where he knew his friend was.

“Aiba?” was the first thing Nino saw when he saw him flying into the studio at a breakneck speed.

Aiba cornered Nino against the wall, “Nino, I’m sorry! Don’t be mad at me!”

“What?! I’m not mad at you…”

“I know you’re mad, but I really couldn’t think of any other name!”

“Huh?” stuttered Nino, extremely confused.

“Aren’t you mad at me because I named my Labrador after you?”

“No…,” sighed Nino, “Wait, you have a Labrador?!”

Aiba took a step back, and frowned, “It was a stray, I decided to adopt it. Kazu isn’t as obedient as I hoped it would be…”

Relief washed over Nino, making him feel completely at rest after a whole week of thinking Aiba didn’t like him, “Why don’t I see your dog when I go over to your house?”

“I usually leave Kazu with my neighbour when you come over,” explained Aiba, and in a soft voice, he added, “I don’t want to share you with it,”

Thankfully, Nino’s sharp ears caught every single word, making Nino flush, “Aiba, is that offer to game at your house still valid?”

Aiba nodded frantically.

Luck was on their side that day, for their filming ended early. Aiba was so excited that Nino was coming over that he forgot about Kazu, hence he got the shock of his life when he opened the door and found shredded newspaper all over the floor and his fridge opened, meats scattered all over the base of it.

“Kazu! Not again!” cried Aiba.

The yellow Labrador trotted up to Aiba, apparently not realizing the sin it has just committed as he nudged a ball towards Aiba, wanting to play.

“So…this is the cause of my sleepless nights…” said Nino, looking down at the dog.

“Sleepless nights?” Aiba repeated, “How did Kazu cause you to not sleep?”

“It’s a long story,” mumbled Nino.

The pair decided that they were too tired to clean up the mess and decided to just head straight to the TV and play that Mario Kart which they had been dying to play together, but never got the chance. To their horror, when they tried to set up the console, one of the cables was bitten through, the main suspect behind them wagging its tail oh so innocently.

“We could always watch a movie,” Aiba suggested.

Nino nodded and climbed onto the couch. Aiba followed him after setting up the player and inserting the CD - ‘The Quiz Show 2’, so that they could laugh a Sho. Seeing the two people on the couch, Kazu bounded up to them and made itself comfortable on the two of them.

By the end of the first episode, Aiba’s and Nino’s stomach were hurting so badly from laughing at Sho doing the really, really random dance before the ‘Dream Chance’ question. And also by the end of the first episode, Nino’s head found its way to Aiba’s shoulder.

“I feel very relaxed,” commented Nino, looking up to see Aiba’s expression.

“Me too,” replied Aiba, glancing down.

The look in their eyes said all. Nino slowly inched upwards until his lips were hovering underneath Aiba’s. His mind blanked out as he realized how close he was to the taller male. Even though they had been best friends, they were never this physically close. Thankfully, Aiba saved him from all the embarrassment, and closed the gap for him.

What happened during the next few episodes of ‘The Quiz Show’, neither Aiba nor Nino could remember.

THE END

-Omake-

“Wait! I cleaned your entire house and stocked your fridge for nothing?!”
