Prologue: is this really it?

When Kaibutsu-kun told his father he had things to settle, he seriously wasn’t referring to this.

Yesterday, he had told Yamada and Mimura everything. Everything. Including who he was, where he came from, why he was here, what he was doing, how he got there, and his favorite past time: fishing, just for the fun of it.

Fortunately, Yamada didn’t turn him over to their authorities. Instead, he promised Kaibutsu-kun that he’ll keep his secret. But somehow, Yamada didn’t seem as close to him as he previously was. Thinking about it, Kaibutsu-kun pouted and continued walking down the road, following Yamada’s distinct scent.

That afternoon, he, Yamada and Mimura had went to find Kotani-san, telling her that that ‘Demon’ flying in was actually a prank played on them by the cast which were using the studio next door. One way or another, she believed them. The moment she did, the three fled from her house, just a split second after telling her they won’t be acting in her movie anymore. Kaibutsu-kun frowned as he remembered what happened. The three of them were kneeling in front of Kotani-san, Mimura explaining everything. If his eyes weren’t playing tricks on him, there was a large gap in between him and Yamada, while Yamada and Mimura looked like Siamese Twins joined at the thigh,

Kaibutsu-kun pouted.

He finally arrived outside a worn looking house which he assumed belonged to Yamada. Thankfully, Mimura was around, since Kaibutsu-kun couldn’t smell or hear him. Swiping both hands in front of his face, Kaibutsu-kun use his psychokinesis, which didn’t disappear, and changed into Mimura.

Taking a deep breathe, Kaibutsu-kun pulled a rope. Weird clanking noises were heard and the door slid open to reveal Yamada. Upon seeing Yamada, looking so good as always, Kaibutsu-kun froze.

“Mimura-kun!” smiled Yamada, clearly happy to see Mimura, “Come in!”

Kaibutsu-kun mentally slapped himself to get his attention back onto his task, “It’ll just take a while, so…”

Kaibutsu-kun took a deep breathe, “Yamada, will you go out with me?”

He saw Yamada pause for a while. He smiled and nodded.

Kaibutsu-kun felt his heart clench. He knew it was for the best. No matter how much he wanted Yamada for himself, Kaibutsu-kun knew it was impossible for them to be together. He wasn’t sure if Yamada liked him or not. So, the only way to ensure that Yamada was well-looked after when he returned to Kaibutsu Land was to entrust him to Mimura.

“Today, Ebisu Garden Place, Clock Tower Square, 1pm,” blurted Kaibutsu-kun before fleeing, his heart unable to take the pressure anymore.

Hands in his pants pocket, Kaibutsu-kun sluggishly walked back to the castle where he found himself in the first time he came to the human world. Before he went to Yamada’s place, he stopped by Mimura’s house. Transformed to look like Yamada, Kaibutsu-kun asked Mimura out, telling him be at the Clock Tower Square at 1pm that afternoon. The look of happiness on Mimura’s face made Kaibutsu-kun want to kill himself. He couldn’t believe he was actually doing this.

It wasn’t long before he was at the gates of his mansion. Kaibutsu-kun turned back, looking at the long road which he had walked on and gained so many precious memories and experience. This would probably be the last time he’ll step foot on the human world. Taking his time to sigh, Kaibutsu-kun tried to memories the scene in front of him.

It will be the last time he’ll see it.

Deciding to move on, Kaibutsu-kun opened the gates and stepped into the boundaries of the mansion, making his way to the storeroom. Not once did he look back again.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Yamada ran as fast as he could to Ebisu. Everything happened so suddenly. Yesterday, they had figured out that Demons and Monsters were real, today, Mimura asked him on a date.

He could see the clock tower just in front of him, a familiar silhouette resting against the clock tower. Mimura was waiting for him. It wasn’t his fault he was late. Mimura had suddenly appeared at his house at 12noon. There wasn’t enough time for him to get ready and settle his siblings. But who cares about that? He was here. Mimura was here, and that was all that mattered.

Mimura spotted him and waved. Yamada wanted to do the same, but somehow, his hands felt too heavy. Yamada bit his lips in frustration. This wasn’t what it was supposed to feel like. When Yamada thought about his date with Mimura after he asked him out, Yamada thought he would feel more…doki doki.

There was only one thing that he could and wanted to do: flee.

Turning around, Yamada ran. He didn’t care where or who he ran into, he just wanted to get away. His brain couldn’t function properly. It was blank. Empty. Just like how he felt now. Yamada just kept running and running. Until something tall and black in colour blocked his path.

He looked up.

So this was where his legs brought him. Yamada felt a small smile forming as he threw the gates open and dashed in. Third time’s the charm, they always say. This was Yamada’s third time in Kaibutsu-kun’s mansion, and he wasn’t as scared as he was the first two times.

Reaching the front door, Yamada burst through that too and went straight to the living room. Empty, figures they’ve all returned home. Yamada felt a pang of disappointment and a tinge of guilt. If only he hadn’t acted so cold towards Kaibutsu-kun after he knew who he really was. But it was justifiable wasn’t it?

However, someone seemed to be on his side. Light started pouring out from a door which looks like a storage room. The same light which came from the ‘Maouseki’. Thanking whoever, Yamada went over to the storage room door and flung it open. He went up and up the steps, not caring where it led to, as long as it led him to Kaibutsu-kun.

Soon enough, Yamada saw the familiar yellow shirt and red and blue cap.

“Ready to go home, young master?” asked Dracula pleasantly, gesturing to a portal in front of Kaibutsu-kun.

“Wait!” cried Yamada, his legs finding the strength to dash forward to Kaibutsu-kun after running a long way to this mansion and climbing a long flight of steps.

Kaibutsu-kun and Dracula turned around in shock. When Kaibutsu-kun saw Yamada running towards him, he started gulping like goldfish. He was still gulping after Yamada flung himself into his arms and buried his head in the crook of his neck.

“Kaibutsu-kun…” mumbled Yamada, his words coming out as a jumble of nonsense against Kaibutsu-kun’s neck, but Kaibutsu-kun’s sharp sense of hearing allowed him to hear it.

“So you figured out our secret,” said Kaibutsu-kun stroking Yamada’s back, “I can’t let you go back since you know who we are. Looks like you’re coming with me,”

Hand in hand, with Dracula leading the way, Yamada leaned against Kaibutsu-kun’s shoulder as they walked through the portal to Kaibutsu Land.
