Ah, so it's November break already and that's freakin amazing. Not that I always need an excuse to sit around and be completely unproductive, but getting to go home for a while and maybe unpack the whole stuff that's happening to me this semester. Maybe I'll read some books, maybe I'll take some notes, or maybe I'll just sit around and freewrite to get out some ideas. That'd would make a truly stellar break if it would work out that way but I just don't know...
It was really great that we're starting up on our Kierkegaard section in my German Romanticism to Existentialism class. Yesterday, we went over the whole biography of the guy and it reminded me why I find him so fascinating. He was probably one of the original emo guys that spent a lot of his childhood being deeply introspective and thinking about things. Then when he grew up he had one of those crazy relationships with a girl that had all of those twists and turns that make that sort of stuff really captivating to read about. He also had a really interesting way of presenting some of his works.
When he was writing on a non-religious topic, he might use a pseudonym that might seem completely random, and one that he would only use once. In two instances, he released two of these kinds of works at the same time, furthering the level of confusion about authorship. This kind of approach really appeals to me because I have recently got interested in using different names. I'm really trying to work out a solid set of nicknames and over the past few years I've had some pretty ridiculous ones come out. The reason that works is because it allows you to take up a different position without seeming to take up a side that is completely contradictory to your own. Kierkegaard did this in order to move thorugh a series of positions to find the right one and maybe if I read some more of his stuff I'll be able to figure out how to use this kind of technique to create the best sort of other work.
